Speed traps only catch lane 1, 2 speeders?

I was driving home today from work in lane two at normal speed, suddenly two fast cars, one on lane ONE, the other lane THREE, zoomed past very fast on my right and left sides.... before i knew it, saw few TP bikes in the bus bay 300m ahead, and two TPs moving to the centre of the road to stop cars going pass........ not surprisingly, the two fast cars slowed down, but to my surprise, only the one on lane ONE kena gestured to park by the roadside near the TP bikes, the one on lane THREE was waved off..... i remembered both were 'racing' at the same speed when they zoomed pass me few seconds ago!!

 

there were at least 3 TP bikes there, surely combining the speed cams/guns they have, it's possible to track all the cars, in all three lanes!

 

Any bros saw similar situations before?

after trying to recall the traffic situation, i remembered there was a slow lorry about 10-car lengths in lane THREE ahead of the fast car, maybe this driver was 'saved' by the slow lorry which shielded him from the speed cam!! lane ONE was completely empty ahead of the speeding car

Speed gun operator have to adjust the angle of the speed can so that only one lane is targetted . This is to avoid situation for contest.

 

But for the latest digital speed cam, better give more respe ct, as it is equipped with detection feature to cover the entire viewing angles. Like the face detection feature on our digital cameras.

It's possible they are using older technology for the speed radar. If you search the web and do some reading much of the older speed gun/speed radar works like sonar. The device sends a signal to the car and the signal bounce back from the car to capture the speed it's traveling. So similar to sonar technology the bigger the size of the vehicle the easier it's to detect. So if there's a bigger truck nearby to the speeding car most likely the speed radar will capture the truck instead of the car.

 

Newer speed radar which uses laser has pin point accuracy as compared to those of older tech which is omni directional like radio waves. They can literally aim at a specific vehicle to get its speed but the good thing about newer tech is that it's expensive and I believe they dun have so much budget to replace all the old tech devices, maybe slowly procure.

One thing such devices unlikely to do-- when the fixed-position speed gun is pointing at the rear of cars, if there is a car tailgating our car, that car will serve as a shield to our rear number plate, the gun can never "see" the plate
