teomingern 6th Gear July 7, 2019 Share July 7, 2019 I drove the Grand Scenic MK4 briefly and no, you don't need 4-5 years to see problems in Renault. Apart from my own experience, friends (private owners & PHV alike) sees different types of issues. 1. Software is unpredictable. Not sure what's the best term to describe it. Preset radio channels will vanished over time. For me, I have to reset radio channels once a month. 2. Carpark at my place is a slight slope, it triggers the check parking brake alert when it has never happened in any of my other cars - Mercs, Honda etc) 3. Creaking noise when I have somebody boarding my car in the rear. Checked with a few other owners and Grab drivers, some of them faced the same noise too. In my circle, nobody has managed to pinpoint what exactly is causing the creaking noise. Brakes or suspension. Workshop couldn't figure out too. But, at least I know I am not alone hearing this. 4. I haven't drove up to Genting in this car but for friends whom had, they say it is an absolute pain without throttle plugin. I think among the Conti cars, Renault probably rank the lowest. French just love to do things different because they're "special". That sounds really bad... but electronic issues are a known issue for French cars... if Renault wiki Nissan's help is already like that, then I shudder to think about Peugeot and Citroen... Having said that, so far my Dad's Renault Fluence seems to be trouble free so far... about 4 years old already... made in Turkey some more... ha ha... ↡ Advertisement

Rickster 5th Gear July 9, 2019 Share July 9, 2019 Letâs see if you still say the same after your warranty expires. BMW would be welcoming your wallet with open arms when you need to replace any parts unless you offload it before warranty ends. ðLol, trust me. French cars are not much better than BMW when it comes to reliability. Went Renault showroom to test drive GS4 as i'm looking for a good size diesel mpv to replace my 2yrs old reliable but boring Toyota wish. The built quality looks good with a lot of electronic gadget and the design and outlook should be one of the best looking mpv with 20inch rim. After test drive, my concern for this mpv is the driving feel and the reliability. IMHO, The 20inch wheel mpv driving experience is somewhat not up to my expectation compare to what i had on other conti MPV with 17inch wheels. Strangely, It drive more like a korean car instead. End of the day, due to Renault SE quoted for my 2yrs old Toyota was the worst among all dealer and seems not keen at all to made a deal. Luckily i managed to join Renault forum and was shocked to see a few complaint with internal car water leak due to poor rear camera installation, some brand new car on and off having strange error code pop out, hard to find shop with replacement tyres due to odd 20inch size which sad to say kind of put me off for this good looking and with good FC mpv. In the end, i gave up looking for a diesel mpv and opt for a petrol conti mpv which gave me assurance with 5yrs warranty and 5years foc servicing.Have test driven the scenic diesel and find the acceleration not acceptable. you'll likely curse and swear when you do overtaking during highwway speeds. I believe the handling ain't so good due to the tyres. It may be a 20 inch, but if you look at the width of the tyres...it's only 195! That like a typical 15 inch tyre width. The width of a tyre will affect the road holding more than the diameter.
Rickster 5th Gear July 9, 2019 Share July 9, 2019 Hi, i'm considering the Grand Scenic but as this is the first time i'm thinking of a conti car, hope to get some feedback here. Are there any common issues/complaints about this car? Are they expensive to fix/repair? Heard that it's expensive to fix a conti car, in general. How is the resale value of this car? I heard that resale value of conti cars are generally lower than jap cars. Is that true? I just want to be mentally prepared and also do my sums carefully. I test drove the car but the initial pick-up seems weak, thought diesel cars' pick up should be better? Overall, would you recommend getting this car? Thanks in advance... Conti cars, will incur more maintenance. But in return, you will usually get better drive, safety and equipment levels for your money. Depends on what you want. So there is no clear winner between a conti or non conti. Each has its merits. Conti car resale usually will be paper plus a few k by the dealers. If you sell it yourself, will be better la. But again if you compare it to a jap car, they dealer maybe offer you a few k more Nia...lol
Ravinged 5th Gear July 10, 2019 Share July 10, 2019 Did you update the radio firmware? Were you and your friends car serviced at Wearns and they also couldn't figure out the issue? First time yes, and the problem came back after 4 months. Second time, they literally reinstall the firmware from scratch. After a few months, problem came back again. I asked around some GS owners, some of them face the same issues, some of them were ok after updating firmware. The problem didn't stop at just software which can be minor. The squeaking sound was unbearable, even Wearnes engineer could do nothing about it. Skimming the brake discs etc, checking the suspension etc. Just glad to have gotten rid of the car. Don't think I will ever get a Renault again. Have test driven the scenic diesel and find the acceleration not acceptable. you'll likely curse and swear when you do overtaking during highwway speeds. That is why some owners eventually installed plugin throttle controller.

Insomnia12 Neutral Newbie October 7, 2019 Share October 7, 2019 Hi guys and gals! Booked a GS too. Tried to join the GS fb few days back but still pending admin approval. Any longer term review for the car? So far I see it’s more of the radio issue? Haas that’s fine with me as I usually listen to sportify.

But of course it will be expensive if you compare it with 18" tyres. But given the good FC, the delta in the cost of tyres (assuming 240-160 x 4pc = 320) would have already been free from the fuel saved in 3 mths based on my mileage. I'm clocking 20km/L even with my hard driving style. My wife can clock 23km/L. Drive so far has been good and no defects, except for the occasional loss of radio station pre-sets in the HU. Still waiting for their firmware patch. The sound system and sound insulation are good as a conti, but I still upgrade to aftermarket sound systems (+ video monitors) and added more sound insulation to the 4 doors. I wanted to add soundproofing to the floorpan, but there was no need to because it was already very good with thick sound insulation foam installed. Now I couldn't even hear the noises from the big trucks and buses when they are beside me! Definitely a good buy for me. Enjoyed the ride more than my previous Estima and Odyssey. 365 Automotive @ 25 Kaki Bukit Rd 4 #01-54/55 Synergy @KB 195/55 R20 $210 all in ea for Primacy 3 or GY Efficient Grip $200 ea. the lowest so far. I have issue occasionally for Radio Station suddenly reset, I do not encounter creaking noise at rear when passenger boarding, I just drove up to Genting, Yes without Throttle booster you will feel lack of climbing power but still making to the Top without much problem for a 1.5L diesel engine but equip wz 270 Nm of torque should be fine! Effortlessly and steady cruising along Malaysia Express Way wz 7 speed EDC up to 170 km/hr unlike Estima or Wish at 140km/'hr you can hear the engine working very hard and noisy and also you feel very uncomfortable to go beyond this speed ! Jap car cabin sound insulation no way can compare with Conti, my ICE group spent a lot of $ on sound proofing and thus add weight and affected FC in order to enjoy music! Since owning from end 2017 till now and just pass 40K I am still on original Primacy 3 tyres and Break Pads still good for another 10 to 15 K, Round trip from Genting and back total 550km plus used up about 40L of fuel with a lot of high speed traveling at average 150 km/hr! Touch wood have not encounter major issue till now but with 100k free servicing /150K five yrs warranty, for now just enjoy driving till 5yrs up then see! Haha !
allen_asakura Neutral Newbie January 15, 2020 Share January 15, 2020 I bought a Renault Grand Scenic 3 months ago and am having sporadic issues with the rear sensor parking guidance. It will only alert when close proximity occasionally. As I usually only commute between home and my parents place I did not find it a big issue. Alas, I had to attend dinner somewhere else last weekend and while reversing in the rather dark carpark, the car hit something that was protruding from the side of the wall. We were shocked that the parking guidance did not warn us. The spot that was hit was at the sensor area so it should have detected. Brought the car back to Renault Singapore and showed them the video. They could only say that video does not show impact and that we have to wait a few moments when changing gear to reverse for the reverse parking guidance to be ready. This is irrefutably shocking and unacceptable as we had driven cars from other manufacturers before and none of them had such sensor alert system issues. ↡ Advertisement
