SimonTan 2nd Gear May 21, 2012 Share May 21, 2012 (edited) Still cheaper then paying CPF and medicals for Singapore cashiers? Obviously. Assuming they hire young Chinese gals as cashiers.... On the bright side....it means those lonely hearts male who could not find local girls can now go NTUC to sian the cashiers!! Gov bring in 40choiced samples for local males to chose. Good righ? 40 not enough....at least hire 2 for each outlets. Recently I cannot tahan the super long queues at all supermarkets.... I hope these new cashiers will reduce the waiting time for everyone. Saving many manhours lost while in the queue waiting for checkout. Damienic 5th Gear May 21, 2012 Share May 21, 2012 (edited) No surprise, just look at the pay.... How many Singaporeans are willing to work for $750 per month. Multiple the pay by 10 (which give $7500, for those mathematically challenged people), & many people here(MCF) still think its low. Is it fair to go after these foreign workers and in the process press down the wages of Singaporeans? The Chinese will of cos take it cos after converting to RMB, its a very decent sum of salary for them which they can send back to their families in China. But over in Singapore, how do Singaporeans survive with that sort of pay under such high cost of living? Which govt in the world would do this sort thing ie adopting policies which helps to press down the wage of the lower income population in their country? If Singaporeans earn that kind of salary in the 90s as a cashier, why is it that more than a decade later with all that inflation coming in, they are expected to work for the same kind of pay with no increase at all? I have almost lost complete faith in the MIW.. Edited May 21, 2012 by Damienic

I have almost lost complete faith in the MIW.. Thats why in many countries, including CHINA, there is some form of min wage structure, a bare minimal to survive in the place, as well as min wage for certain profession. So they have to have method to reduce to overhead, say automatic check out machines, plan the # of workers at work base on fluency of the traffic, multi tasking etc. This effectively reduce the overhead & manpower, while maintain reasonable wage, & in a country with limited size, shouldn't this be what we should aim for? But of course from GDP standpoint, higher population means more money (more people to spend money, as well as machines do not need house, or food or clothes). Not to mention how some people get rich via properties, of course at the cost of the poor that wanted a new place for a new families.

Albeniz Turbocharged May 21, 2012 Share May 21, 2012 of course cashier pay must be low... otherwise how to pay zorro his salary? cashiers are the ones handling the money directly. by pap's theory, cashiers should be paid highly to prevent corruption. strange, why are they only paid 750? You've got a point here. but Miw gives priority for high pays to elites who handle money. Sorry, cashiers are not considered by them as elites.
