Darthrevan Supercharged May 19, 2012 Share May 19, 2012 While roads here are getting more crowded, that has not deterred some motorists from pulling away from others and breaking the speed limits. The total number of motor vehicles here grew from about 850,000 in 2007 to roughly 950,000 last year, according to figures released by the Land Transport Authority. This amounted to an increase of 11.7 per cent over that period. But the number of speeding violations detected by the Traffic Police over the same period shot up 40.6 per cent, from nearly 160,000 in 2007 to more than 225,000 last year. However, first-quarter figures for last year and this year show that speeding offences have dipped. Hamburger Hypersonic May 19, 2012 Share May 19, 2012 dont they realize the difference in speeding and reckless driving....... i am not condoning speeding. A driver driving slightly above limit are careful while a slow one drives recklessly. So who is the more dangerous one?? of course, speed excessively is another thing altogether and that is consider reckless.
SimonTan 2nd Gear May 19, 2012 Share May 19, 2012 Detected? But not summoned? Shame on them. Why give chance? Just summon and fine every speeders untill they learn to drive slow lah. Useless enforcement team.
Octopus 3rd Gear May 19, 2012 Share May 19, 2012 So, does it mean ERP will be reducing soon? Smoother flow of traffic on the road.
Cwong2910 2nd Gear May 19, 2012 Share May 19, 2012 Wow 20% of drivers in Singapore speed (as in issued speeding ticket). maybe 5% is repeat offenders. Then again, some drivers own multiple cars. When 20% of the driving population consistently "speed" year after year, is it still consider speeding or are the rules unrealistic? e.g. classic case at the stretch of road outside four seasons hotel with speed limit of 50km/h and mobile speed traps are placed there almost every week. I believe that demonstrates the current speed limits are way too low, if so many speeding yet proportionately lesser accidents.
Chrispie 5th Gear May 19, 2012 Share May 19, 2012 (edited) maybe they step up the enforcement/white ants on bridges more too... so that equates to more kena caught. So maybe all along the level is the same, but more are caught due to TP's action. So in a way, you cannot really believe the stats too. and they shld also put the occurence as a percentage of total car population. Cos if the percentage is the same, it rises in tandem with the car population, so any increase is understandable. Darthrevan Supercharged May 19, 2012 Author Share May 19, 2012 its a staggering 23.57% out of the total vehicle population..the actual number should be much higher due to non-enforcement action ↡ Advertisement
