Yup budget constraints. Merc taxi drivers tell me not to sit in the front seat of Sonata

I am surprised Hyundai even allow sale of their axi cars without airbags. They should make it mandatory

Is not Hyundai fault, is the taxi company. They want to save cost, buy taxi without airbags. Sonata can come with 6 airbags if order full spec.

Actually it is a double edge sword. With air bag, they may not drive recklessly if their forfeited premium is raise to higher amount. If you look at the other angle, yes, they may drive recklessly if the premium is not raises. Not all taxi lau is a reckless driver, only a few chiu Cheng ones around that causes the bad reputation.

Taxi driver need to be reminded that replacement airbag cost $3k, which could be their 1 mth net income.

I think it is both fault. Merc cab has similar no of airbag as any other merc. Why not Hyundai Sonata?

2nd gen Wish has all sides SRS as standard feature.

Any one can confirm if these are omitted in our cab fleet?

I sat in red wish taxi before, 2nd row has air bags but 3rd row not sure. 3rd row got gas tank though!

New wish passenger has air bags all the way....

That is only if the taxi company raise the penalty to 3k whenever got accident. But if they do that then alot of taxi drivers might end up renting taxis from the others which penalise them less for the accidents.

this transaction by right should be between the taxi company and the local hyundai dealer. we should leave hyundai out of it.

Why fault for seller?

Taxi company basically want to save cost, they only want cheap cheap car, so order with min spec.

Taxis are installed with turbos but no air bags :wacko::wacko:

I believe our concern should be more on road safety than air bags. No air bag required if no accident [laugh] I mean we should be more keen/concern to buy/drive those that are less accident-prone, than be concerned if they got air bags.

Ever told big cars got more protection in accident, so buy big ones (which they can not handle well). They never see the logic that accident-free/accident-less models more protection [confused]

Neutral Newbie

Hi all I am currently driving the trial Sonata taxi, which is the highest spec version with 6 airbags. There are only 2 of them among the 10000 plus Sonata taxis running on our roads. As the Sonata is being bought to replace the aging Toyota Crowns and Nissan Cedrics, its understandable they do not want the highest spec version. But they should at least include airbag. Most cars nowadays all come with airbag. The only safety feature in the Sonata taxis is the ABS.

I think these 2 high spec Sonata taxi will be taken off the roads in 2 years time as they are already 6 years old. Most taxis are allowed to ply the roads for 7 to 8 years.

My cabby friends all said the recent fires involving Sonata cab started after they have switched to using compatible parts from china or taiwan. Very disappointed with them.
