Air Con Recirculation On vs Off

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hello brothers and sisters,

Have you noticed that when your car's aircon recirculation is switched on, the engine performance and response becomes more sluggish as compared to when the aircon recirculation is switched off?

I mean, i would switch off the recirculation all the time, if not for the smelly taxi fumes and the reduced cooling ability.

So does switching on aircon recirculation use up the engine's power?

no difference to me.... when left on.. the aircon feels colder...

maybe you wanna check your battery? just go to any shell station which has a work shop and ask them test your batt....

yup.. the tuner say it is a aggressive tune... can really feel it....

if the spark plugs does not work... I may have to detune it...

Should be with fresh air coming in, your air con has to work harder. But I don't feel much difference. Only smell the difference.. [:p]

you just opted for a Stage 1 tune right? I guess perhaps it is too much for the stock components.

The recirculation on off only replaces the old manual level isn't it? And once on, it just close the vent and that's it, no idea how it will have those sluggish effect on your car. Care to share what car make is that?

Neutral Newbie
[drivingcar] To me also not difference whether on or off. I only off it during long distance drive up north to freshen up the cabin air.

no difference in engine power to me.

In cold countries, one often has to turn on the demister when the front windscreen becomes misty or foggy. The recirculation will automatically be turned off also and outside air will be drawn into the cabin. This is the only instance that I will be forced to smell the exhaust gases outside. Otherwise I always kept the recirculation feature off.

Logically, recirc mode on would mean the A/C has to do less work since it's dealing with an enclosed space, and doesn't have to keep cooling a fresh charge of air from outside. So it's strange that you're finding more sluggish performance when you turn recirc on.

I usually leave recirc off and A/C in auto climate control mode unless I'm next to fume or odour emitting vehicles, then I turn recirc on. That's when I have my top up, of course. :D

Turbocharged

I find it better if the circulation is on. Air is cooler, compressor will not work so hard and draw less from the engine?

standard stage 1 should not be... stock components is fine... mine is slightly more aggressive lol
