Genie47 1st Gear May 15, 2012 Share May 15, 2012 The Ferrari seems faster than 150kph in the video... OK then, lets put in 210 kph. Stopping distance? Lets be optimistic at 15m. 20.4 tons. It is still in TONS of force. Before we all go out and drive, we kneel before the brake pads to thank them and worship them.
Acemundo Supercharged May 15, 2012 Share May 15, 2012 Use this: http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/carcr.html Ferrari 599 GTO is 1605kg. Speed? I think we can key in 150kph? Resulting impact force? 513.8 tons! yeah...that's why the lady passenger in ferrari is lucky. she was not at the reaction end of "action=reaction" when the ferrari crashed into the taxi. the taxi passenger bore the brunt (action) while the ferrari drive suffered the reaction bit. the taxi driver probably cushioned by the passenger seat and side beams but still likely the force still very huge. Same page but calculate forces on the driver. 210kph, weight of driver is 70kg? car stopped at 15m 0.8tons of force on the driver. If the stopping distance is shorter lets say 5m, 2.6 tons of force. Viceroymenthol 6th Gear May 15, 2012 Share May 15, 2012 Just left the canberra wake. The daughter was very decent and courteous girl wearing glasses. Count-Bracula Twincharged May 15, 2012 Share May 15, 2012 I think now everyone will think twice or thrice to be first move off from the moment light turn green... never know when some will do this kind of fatal stunt... Yeah man. Please drive safe and be patient. Don't horn at junctions once green lights on, be safe take your time.

Beng2 5th Gear May 15, 2012 Share May 15, 2012 Yes, he was laughing but yet told the reporters when he was interviewed about how shocked and shaken he was when it happened. From the laughter he didn't appeared to be so at all. Please.. I witnessed a near-miss which could have caused me serious injury (and I must say the outcome was not as serious as the Ferrari case). Believe me: the last thing you will do in such situation is laugh. The cabbie was thanking his lucky stars in his own way. And if you noticed, he did not slam his brakes as people normally would, after witnessing the missile hitting the ill fated cab - which might have caused another accident if there was a car behind his cab. inlinesix Hypersonic May 15, 2012 Share May 15, 2012 This is a serious question for legal experts. Since beating red light is an offensive, the respective 3rd party may not be able to claim against Ferrari driver. Could the respective 3rd party request the court to freeze the estate of the deceased pending the outcome of the respective civil action?
Ender Hypersonic May 15, 2012 Share May 15, 2012 (edited) and also please don't try to beat the lights Good reminder. But the ferrari driver didn't beat the red light.. He totally disregard the red light which was on for a more than 10 secs. Edited May 15, 2012 by Ender

inlinesix Hypersonic May 15, 2012 Share May 15, 2012 Some of the oldest rules. 1. Don't beat the lights.( I do) 2. Don't speed. (I usually drive +10km/h) 3. Even if its within legal speed limit, slow down and watch out when a ball is rolling onto the road. (What is this?) 4. Don't rush into a traffic junction or filter lane, look out for pedestrians. (I do) 5. Don't rush into a traffic junction or filter lane, look out for other cars. (I do) How many people actually follow them ?
Aventador 6th Gear May 15, 2012 Share May 15, 2012 Had the ferrari was delayed at the upstream side, the Ferrari would have arrived at the same junction 1 second later. N fate has it, the first taxi driver would be the one looking at his rear view mirror and saying "wo woo lucky man, Heng I speed up faster when the light turn green". And the second taxi would have being the victim!! Sublime fate and Karma. That's the beauty of life. I think you grasp the situation spot on many people now saying driving fast cars is dangerous, but you turn it around and look, you can say it is dangerous to take a taxi too. same for your point that people say should pick up slower from traffic lights - if it was 1 sec later, people would say better pick up faster I always tell people the story of this woman who was hanging clothes in her backyard. A dump truck had a punctured tire on the top of the hill, while they changed tires, the huge tire rolled down the hill and killed the woman in her own house so what can you say? don't leave the house ever?
