Ruriimasu 1st Gear May 20, 2012 Share May 20, 2012 (edited) actually.. aim of coe has always been to curb car population. so being highly priced can make ppl pause to think before buying, i think it really serves its purpose well. it was never about helping everyone or needy own a car, it has all along been curbing car population. much as i dont like coe, but it clearly starts to slow down new car growth. so do you really think that the minister will be so dumb to ease it and destroy his kpi which is already met? he is tasked to reduce car growth, he will be nuts if he eased coe so more cars can be put on the roads. public housing however is definitely MBT's fault. housing is a need, not a want, as in most cases such as a car. Raymondism Twincharged May 20, 2012 Share May 20, 2012 btw does anyone knows how many percent of singapore citizens owns a car?
Sabian Turbocharged May 20, 2012 Share May 20, 2012 Make COE entitlement to each Singapore Families, entitlement not allow to transfer or sell. Anyone one to have more, has to pocket out more. you need to add in additional clauses if you want this kind of rule to work. For eg: if another person, other than family member registered to the vehicle, is found driving the vehicle. Jail, fine and kantong license for the unauthorized driver. Same for the family member who is registered owner. Car confiscated.
inlinesix Hypersonic May 20, 2012 Share May 20, 2012 Lolz, and "encourage" a faster driving habit, doubt gov will do that. Most will drive 1km/hr faster on a standstill traffic just to save some $ At least I will :) In that case, there will be less complain of road hogger right? Yawnz 1st Gear May 20, 2012 Share May 20, 2012 So has LTA come out with any solutions yet? It close to the end of the month already
Jay1980 1st Gear May 21, 2012 Share May 21, 2012 I rather have tighter Coe control... At least the road will not be so congested, but one thing I found that the transport management should review is the off peak car deduction of $17000... These are the family people who bought car for family usage on weekend and with such high Coe nowadays, the deduction should increase accordingly to encourage ppl to purchase OPC instead and ease the congestion during weekday peak hour

Tanhangkiang 3rd Gear May 22, 2012 Share May 22, 2012 Is it possible to improve he utilisation of express ways in our context? For instance, introducing dynamic speed limit, where speed limit vary according to the conditions. Such as page 4 of the slide attached as URL below. http://www.ectri.org/YRS11/Documents/Final...20_HarmsDVS.pdf
Achee 4th Gear May 22, 2012 Share May 22, 2012 Not applicable in Singapore where there are many road hoggers
Gee 1st Gear May 22, 2012 Share May 22, 2012 LTA to explore easing tight COE supply. I say build more roads. Start with 2nd tier PIE, CTE to double its capacity with lesser exits.
inlinesix Hypersonic May 22, 2012 Share May 22, 2012 Looks like nobody has idea better than mine. Scrap COE but keep ARF & PARF. ERP during peak period should be calculated as follows: If rolling 3 mths average speed falls below: 70km/h: $10 60km/h: $20 50km/h: $30 40km/h: $40 < 40km/h: $50 Confirm traffic smooth like butter. Aspire to own a car? Go ahead. Don't complain expensive when it is used. We have limited land space.

If public transport is good / affordable enough for daily commute, I will still keep a car or two since there'll be no arf/coe/erp, but use it on weekends or in MY, use trains/buses on weekdays.
