Hi Guys,

I am an ICE noob but will like to make the sound quality a little better. Curently my HU is http://www.alpine.com.au/showItem.php?item_id=48 and was wondering do I have to change the HU before I do anything? Or a simple upgrade of component speakers with amp will suffice. Pls advise my 1st step?

Alpine HUs are one of the better ones out there, so spend the money on swapping out your speakers and add amps. If you have the cash go for active sub and sound processor (=

Thanks Natx,

As I am rather noob to ICE and will not want to spurge on it, however will just like to improve the sound quality.

spoke to some friends who asked me to change my HU, some say change component speakers and add Amp.

So I am quite lost as on where to start. I dont mind changing the speakers but do not want to start by changing everything.

Keep your Alpine HU. Just add a decent 2ch amp and change to a decent set of component speakers will do. Should not be more than $500 for this setup.

From Wiki:

An audio amplifier is an electronic amplifier that amplifies low-power audio signals (signals composed primarily of frequencies between 20 - 20 000 Hz, the human range of hearing) to a level suitable for driving loudspeakers and is the final stage in a typical audio playback chain.

The preceding stages in such a chain are low power audio amplifiers which perform tasks like pre-amplification, equalization, tone control, mixing/effects, or audio sources like record players, CD players, and cassette players. Most audio amplifiers require these low-level inputs to adhere to line levels.

While the input signal to an audio amplifier may measure only a few hundred microwatts, its output may be tens, hundreds, or thousands of watts.
