no income how to have good education and health?

no money cannot get the best doc to treat u when sick

no money cannot go to the best schools.

number 1 is still income.

Actually, the old Chinese saying "Health is wealth" is true to the very word even in today's context.

Without good health, one cannot even have the capability to earn the wealth.

Huge wealth cannot buy back good health.

Yeah u just said it; income. Some ppl'see income as top priority. They wan to get as much money as possible.

Conclusion is diff ppl has diff perception of quality of life.

Err... I did not say there is a ranking or sequence of the three dimensions.

Maybe other posters like Mllcg did, but not me.

The numbers were there so that one can easily tell that there are three commonly accepted goalposts.

Generally speaking, one needs all of them, in some portions and attainments at the same time.

Imbalance or the lack of one out of the three, does not work out in the longer run.

For example, if one is rich and educated but is chronically sick (that money/healthcare cannot mitigate),

then this person is considered to be living lower quality of life.

Is there anything subjective about what I said above? No. That's why thie perception argument is flawed.

Besides, I could list another three goalposts associated with living. to test if your "perception" argument is true.

Hypothetical goalposts of higher quality of life:

1. Live in countries with 4 seasons.

2. Live in a cosmopolitian city.

3. Travels to and resides in annually in different countries every year.

In reality, the above three goalposts are not "common" among the majority, thus you can't possible say quality of life is a perception.

Income, health and education are thus the commonly accepted goalposts of the quality of ife.

Nothing to do with perceptions. It is not as subjective as you think, or else governments will be trying to mandate and influence

everyone to live in a cosmoplitian city to enjoy a higher quality of life.

Bro, no one will deny that money is important, but by your logic, only the top maybe 5% can enjoy good quality of life. Your mentality is very Singaporeans leh.

Obviously, not everyone can be the top 1-5% of population, you can have only precisely *wait for it* 1-5%. So the rest of us all must be suffer in silence & lead miserable lives?

But this is normal, as most of us are brought up this way, "Me" is most important, "$" is King More $-> More happiness. "compassion, courtesy, kindheartedness are good quality, as long as they do not affect "Me" & "$". [laugh]

The mindset is, if I make more money, my life will become better, once you made the money, you will be happy....at least for a while, than you find yourself asking again, If I make this much more, & I will be happy again....

I used to think like that, everyday think how I can make big money. So I was surprise when have the chance to go to England to work, & many people are happy with their life & work (unlike in Singapore, where everyone think they are underpay, go to work with a sad face every morning). I cannot understand this.

Slowly I get to understand why, as people there value value family time, social gathering, BBQ with friends, satisfactory from DIY work on say a new water features in the house or garden, & have pride in work, things that doesn't cost a lot, unlike here.

Where we wanted to eat at top restaurants every weekends or even weekdays, buy branded goods, pay high price for house reno, send kids to those "enrichment" courses...etc

No need to think too much leh, next time you come to Germany, I show you around, I can show you many people who are not top 5%, which is a lot, like 95% a lot, and are leading very happy, & fulfilling life. Obviously there will be a small percentage that are in bad shape, but far & large, you can get quality living without having to be very rich, for a professional.

Income ----

The minimum amount preferably should be able to cover basic necessities in life. Sometimes, different societies use somewhat different benchmarks. Will lower-middle class standard of living be a good lower limit? Personally i do think so.

Health ----

It may not mean perfect health condition. Something like being able to do 80% of usual physical tasks and 95% of mental tasks?

Education ----

Maybe it needs not be the acquisitions of paper qualifications in terms of "Education" per se (eg degrees etc), but the accumulation of sufficient general knowledge to appreciate things around us, and more importantly, the continued process of learning either formally or informally.

I disagree. Quality of life is not defined in perceptions.

The evidence is the reality all around us: there exist 3 factors or dimensions which define and are associated with quality of life.

The 3 dimensions are representative of what most people commonly strive for their real lives for a higher quality of life:

1. Income

2. Health

3. Education

Perphaps some have taken them for granted and hence oblivious that access to the above leads to a higher quality of life.

Governments meddles with the above the three dimensions not for nilly willy reasons

but because they have been generally accepted as quality of life indicators.

[cool]

you must work for govt in this area right?

how come always bring up what govt use as a measure?

governments are not always right, thats why so much tweaking required. [rolleyes]

and some things that are measured are just too basic for the complicated life we live now.

now, lets ask ourselves, is enrichment for child in today's singapore a need or a want?

is internet access in a home a need or a want?

is an annual holiday to relieve stress a need or a want?

oh, but dont misunderstand me again.

i am not disputing your post.

only adding on to it, yes not entirely by perceptions , but also certainly not by some silly model either.

the govt meddles too much sometimes, thats the problem, muayhahaha

yes you are definitely on the right track.

Singaporeans hv been "built" purely to ratrace, to seek wealth , position, status as the means to accomplish the rest. if you go to any school and ask the children what they want to be, you will be shocked.i was and somewhat sadden too.

i will guide my kids not to walk the same footsteps i had to.

i know that there will come a time when i will have to think very hard about giving up life here.

a choice bro....is a choice. Again, sometimes these things come straight into our faces, and not much we can do abt it. Like you can choose to take a back seat, then how? relatives suan, lose face, etc. Do what is best for yourself and family. [wave]

I am definitely contented, albeit the itchiness to change cars off n on [grin][grin]

So that he can slap you when you doze off

in some other matured countries, the co-driver system has been in place for a long time to provide checks and balance, some co-drivers are as capable, if not more so, than the driver........ [:)]
