You prolly been to Oz for short trips and not actually lived there.

My maternal side all reside in Oz - Sydney, Perth and Brisbane.

My children are all studying in Unis there.

I hold a PR, but am very comfortable in SG.

But I still need to fulfill my minimum-days-stay-per-year there, to keep my PR!

Convert to Oz passport?

For me, very easy, with family legacy already there for the last 30+ years.

All naturalized already.

I want? No, not for me.

I am contented in SG.

Living in prime CCR landed, fully paid up.

A couple of D9 investment properties.

Earning >$500K p.a.

Own >3 cars.

Support the PAP govt 100%.

Become Aussie for what?

Seek quality of life?

My quality of life: R&R in Oz for a few months in a year (to meet my PR requirements)

Put a significant part of my cash savings there, earning 5+% interest in savings, or up to 6% for FD with ZERO risk and a guaranteed spending channel there (i.e. no forex exposure for me).

Best of both worlds what?

Racism non existent? How wrong you are.

You go shopping there only right - within the city only, I presume.

You only need to be schooled there, to begin with.

Aussie kids pulling their eye lids around corners and scooting off. My cousins got these when they were young.

Waiting in front of cashier first (no queueing system, but FCFS - like in Swiss Butchery here), only to be served later.

Walking along the street, minding your own business, only to be told to go back to where you came from.

You move into a neighborhood and Aussie neighbors avoid you ... till they find out that you are from Singapore (they actually tell you so, later on)

(blame the chinanese, hongkies and vietnamese for causing this Asian stigma? The Aussies couldn't tell the difference, cos we all look alike!)

Hey, all this happens in the suburbs lah, the Aussie heartland, not the short trips that you do in the city.

Work there? There is a glass ceiling hor, unless you are the best in that profession.

Otherwise do your own business.

Even then, risk your shop's glass of being smashed - like it happened in Perth a few years ago, to Asian-run shops only!

are u a minister??? [wave]

but some of wad u said its true, Singapore is a safe country, no racism instead we could be the one who doing it.

Aussie indeed have some racism toward the us but they tend to be more friendly than people in SG. I suggest if wanna retire or seek new experience for education, Aussie could be a choice!

If i'm so rich like you, stay in Singapore for what? sell everything bring 30-40mil over and can live like a king, 1 week go NT shoot kangaroo, next week fly to Cairns diving at Great Barrier reef, next week fly to Tasmania drink red wine at vineyard.

I can still do all that now!

Don't forget, I need to fulfill the days-in-Oz quota to keep my PR.

I still get the best of both worlds what.

You know, it's impossible to get chui kuay, orr kuay, chye tow kuay, uppama, rawa thosai, gu bak kway teow, bak chor mee, char kuay teow etc there?

I can still eat all these, yet go to the Sunshine Coast, Salamanca market in Tas, or Cairns etc.

Right from the mouth of an Aussie... Me!

Truth is "racism" does exist, but once the aussies realise that you speak English and you understand them, they treat you as one of them. We have been living in Australia for the last 3.5 years and we experienced some instances where it can be perceived as racism or as someone mentioned, wait in front of the line only to be served last. Otherwise, we have not been at the end of direct racial abuse.

We have been able to get some pretty authentic S'porean food in Perth and Melbourne, but I agree, if you are in some remote country towns or smaller cities than good luck with your chicken rice cravings, even getting Prima Taste's chicken rice is a challenge.

In terms of employment, you get a greater sense of work life balance. We come to work on time and never once do we leave late (always leave early). We get paid quite a bit more than in S'pore, although the higher cost of living sort of cancel that out. As someone mentioned, the interest rates are >5% so if you are a saver, than your interest in a month will dwarf your annual interest in S'pore.

Hope I cleared up all the hear says and the "he say this, she said that".

And a damn good Laksa in Flemington too! :D

For quality life overseas, I think it is the pace of life we have here that makes many of us wanted to exit from here. Everyone moves forward and so fast but never stop to look back.

If OZ so bad as mention, why so many Singaporeans like to move there? Because close proximity to Singapore, & similar weather, although they do have 4 seasons, but not as distinctive like North of USA, Europe or China.

But I do have a friend who lived in Brisbane & he is happy there. I guess, when people do not know you, they tend to stereotype or profile you, but once you made an effort to make friends, join a community, then things will be better.

When you are oversea, you must mixed with locals.

i want to migrate to japan

I heard Japan is more xenophobic than many Western countries. Even if you can speak perfect Japanese & mix with the people, they will still treat you like an outsider. That's what I heard anyway.

Not in the suburbs my friend.

Maybe in the city, but even then, it's very substandard.

If you are referring to the Singapore food shops along Swanston, that's truly BS. Doesn't even taste anything like the real thingy.

There was a so-called Peranakan restaurant at Lygon St.

For several months, I passed by and saw almost no one inside.

Within a year, it closed down.

The only 'authethic' Chinese cuisine are the HK-run restaurants. But you certainly won't get your chui kuay or chye tow kuay there!

Certainly no uppama, or rawa thosai (not thosai hor) in Oz. Tell me where - I will wager $10 with you!

Supercharged

22millions is a small number in comparison to the total population of China..its less than 1.7%..on the other hand in SG..if 3% wants to migrate..its a big problem..resulting in brain drain

Thanks mate, for articulating the subtle racism there to some of the non believers here.

Also the relatively high savings interest rate there, which beats most financial investment instruments available here (with risks somemore!).

Yup, once the Aussie neighbors find out that you speak good English, they will mossy up to you.

When we moved in, it took 6 months before a neighbor came with the first cake. As more in the neighborhood get to know, their guards were let down.

"Oh we didn't know that you are from Singapore!"

Dig deeper, slowly, and you will realize that they abhor the Vietnamese.

One family gets into a neighborhood, and more will come. Soon, the Aussies will slowly move out, one by one, and then, it will become a Vietnamese community! Now this 'fear' or call it concern was actually told to me, after we became beer buddies.

Got a Sporean couple left for USA and moved house 3 times due to retrenchments and now in Wisconsin. Got their Green cards and children born there.

Hubby got a Government job but barely making ends meet (as you know Garment job in USA low pay). Wife not working as got to look after 3 kids.

We had ask him to come back SG as we believe he can get a nice job with his US experience. He declined as he said they have life there, more family time and can do lotsa things that living in SG would be impossible.

Got another Sporean couple left for Aussie Brisbane with 3 kids. doing OK and got PR there. Also say there is Quality LIFE there that SG cannot give.

I guess those who left actually love to have more time in their hands - Sporean ideals.

Singaporeans are a sad bunch.

Density getting higher everyday, frustrations and pressure building up

We have no life literally.
