Havoc childhood = Stable adulthood?

Let's say someone was very havoc during his growing up years, always smoking, drinking, cheonging, having multipe flings and so on. By the time he reaches adulthood, he would have seen it done that and arguably have a more stable adulthood in terms of temperament and maturity.

 

On the other hand if someone was brought up strictly following the rules and always studying, he is more likely to have a mid life crisis or end up in some salty scandal like unintentionally bonking an underaged prostitute.

 

Is there any truth to this theory?

I guess there is some truth to this. but also depends on how havoc they have been. some so havoc until get degree from changi. know some that went too far. drugs, gangs, etc. however now they are stable members of society.

sounds true leh.. when i was in my late teens, til mid 20s.. other than take drugs never try before.. almost all tried. now 30s.. dun have craving for those funny stuff and always looking to go home hug my kid.. hehe

To verify this, you would have to subject several subjects to social experiments. Lets don't even go into that as reproducibility is a big question.

 

The question i would pose back to you is, what parameters do you think impact on a person's maturity in adulthood. Also, define maturity in this context. You seem to associate the prospect of having a midlife crisis and staying on the right side of the law to the level of maturity. Is that necessarily so?

 

The notion of maturity in this context being subjective, it is very difficult to progress further on this discussion. And also, let us not fall into the all familiar trap of making sweeping statements. Not saying that you did but we are teetering around the edge.
