I cant cook. But best with maggi mee, hot water + mee + flavouring(MSG). [laugh] Tried cooking once, wife dont dare to eat. Me eat halfway throwaway.

Even the ready to eat Mee Rebus from supermarket I also screw up. But wife did succeed in the ready to eat chilli crab sauce. [laugh]

When taking maggie mee, cut down on the powder which tend to contain too much MSG. I usually will use only half the portion if not less. Then it seems to taste better (at least for me) and definitely less unhealthy.

Yeah, family recipes, improved over the years. At least I had the privilege of cooking a nice meal for my 1st Uncle

before he passed away 2 months ago. He always loved my ondeh ondeh. Well....I'm happy he enjoyed it. [:)]

My condolence to you on the demise of your uncle. At least he had the satisfaction of a nice authentic Peranakan meal and the ondeh ondeh.

Outside ondeh onde contains too much flour as opposed the sweet potatoes. I prefer my wife's anytime. Good balance of flour, sweet potatoe and gula melaka. Best! [thumbsup]

Bro. the noodle itself is unhealthy, Deep fried and dried.

You can always blench the noodle, then stir fry with whatever you have in the

fridge to make a far more refreshing and somewhat "cleaner" meal.

Bro. use topical and sweet potatoes, can do without flour. Pandan can use a knife to extract from pandan leaves, scrap it, and filter for the essence and color. The grated coconut, steam prior to coating, so it doesn't turn sour, (chow sng) then coat on.

It's true that instant noodle is never healthy in the first place. Hence, I rarely eat instant noodles except when it's a hobson's choice.

Gotta go now.

Have fun and enjoy your weekend folks! [:)]

I used to enjoy good Indian mee goreng which used to be very tasty back in the 60s and 70s. However, I find it difficult to find similar tasty mee goreng today which at the same time tend to be more oily.

The earlier mee goreng had simple ingredients such as:

a) big onion

b) chye sim

c) potatoe

d) taukwa (yellow beancurd)

e) fresh tomato

f) green chilli

fried together with tomato, red chilli sauce, BLACK SOYA SAUCE and with or without egg.

:D Missed out this important sauce which enhances the flavour. How on earth can I forget this. [shakehead]

However, today's mee goreng ingredients tend to consist of:

a) big onion

b) cabbage

c) corn

d) fish cake

e) prawn (yes and no)

f) potatoe

g) fresh green or red chilli

fried together with tomato and red chilli sauce and with or without egg

Apparently, the additional ingredients tend to have an adverse affect on the taste of today's mee goreng as opposed to what I used to have.

Therefore, can anyone recommend where good mee goreng can currently be found within Singapore as I've yet to find one to date?

Cheers! [wave]

One of my indian friends went to a malay stall and said...."makcik kasi tu jembut-jembut". He came back and asked us why the makcik looked at him in a dis gusted manner but was chuckling away. When we told him its jemput-jemput and told him what jembut means he went..."sheeeeeettt!" [laugh]

By this, I presume you to mean "tapioca"? If so, it should be a good alternative to the flour and will give it a try. Thanks for sharing. [thumbsup]

BTW, any idea where I can get a coconut grater because often coconut in packets or from market/provision shops are not as fresh as if you do it on your own. Used to have one but somehow lost (when moving house) which was in galvanised steel purely for grating.
