Eyke Supercharged April 26, 2012 Share April 26, 2012 coz: "Fitting blinking brake lights that do not comply with the relevant safety standards, however, is not allowed as the glare may cause distraction and confusion to other road users. Vehicle owners who modify their brake lights illegally can be fined up to $1,000, or face a jail term of three months for the first offence. Repeat offenders face a fine of up to $2,000, or a jail term of up to six months. Deathism Neutral Newbie April 26, 2012 Share April 26, 2012 From my experience, i feel that it's a good idea. Especially when you're driving at night and feeling sleepy. The blinking lights will get your attention. I think they did research and experiments on this in Europe.

Eyke Supercharged April 26, 2012 Author Share April 26, 2012 i thought these come as standard now on Mercedes Benz when doing an emergency brake. that one is factory-fitted, illegal is this kinda aftermarket ownself-installed, F1-style kind:
Sosaria Twincharged April 26, 2012 Share April 26, 2012 Nevertheless, I always feel that any feature to attract or draw the attention of other drivers on the road, e.g. during braking, is good and increases safety. Just like some motorbikes have headlamps that appear to strobe or blink at a high frequency. Is this illegal? But I find that it's safer for the biker because these make the bike more noticeable. macrosszero Turbocharged April 26, 2012 Share April 26, 2012 Adding blinking lights is just geh-zhua. Too many Christmas trees on the road nowadays, LED strips are too cheap, maybe there is a competition to see how many LEDs one can fit on their cars? Ckchong8 1st Gear April 26, 2012 Share April 26, 2012 Blinking lights have never been legalized here, ever. They are classified as "distractions". Once upon a time, cars were not factory fitted with the "3rd brake light", and then sometime in the 90s it was required by law and cars were retro-fitted, so it's not true that only factory fitted brake lights are allowed. But not flashy ones. What's in the gray area are the additional spot lights and fog lights that are not allowed to be used here, but allowed to be installed. I think they must be covered when on Singapore roads, and then you uncover them when you head into the off road or Malaysia and people often have their light covers stolen. To me, this requirement is nonsense. It's like we do not trust Singaporeans to be law abiding at all if they do not install light covers. But factory installed fog lights are not covered anyway, so it's not consistent. I think 3rd brake light not require by spore law only boleh land
Nzy Twincharged April 26, 2012 Share April 26, 2012 The mercedes brake light only blink when they do emergency braking. But then those aftermarket kind mostly just keep blinking as long as brakes are on. Its really irritating to be behind one of these cars especially at a traffic light or in a jam. LTA will say illegal But comparing the two, blinking/coloured lights on a bike is more acceptable than using high beams to make himself more visible or to intimidate drivers into not filtering coz the high beams make its hard to look at the side mirrors.
