Rocky35 1st Gear March 7, 2013 Share March 7, 2013 Criteria is also to be stayingvin a landed house? Else how to charge battery? As a TIDES+ participant, the scheme would include the FOC supply and installation of a charging station, at a place of your choosing, within some conditions. So for most people, it would be installed at their work place car park, given that the owner of the car park allows. The number plate is in half yellow half blue? Correct. Apart from the LEAF, I believe there are also some other brands/models on the road with the blue/yellow plate. Like Daimler Smart Fortwo, Renault Fluence ZE. Wonder what batt are being used for the leaf, for Prius, the batt doesn't last once it's overnight, but while driving charge and discharge, it's excellent. LEAF's batt is lithium ion type. Prius's is NiMH, which has poorer energy density and worse self-discharge, but I don't think it would lose more than say 10% overnight. In other words, the driver can bring the battery pack to his house for recharge, then slot it in again for the next journey. In this way, residents living in high storeys can also drive electric cars. Well the LEAF battery is at least 170 kg. I think it would be more likely that charging points will be made available in public carparks than such a huge improvement in energy storage to be achieved within the next 10 years. ↡ Advertisement
Deckbuild 6th Gear March 7, 2013 Share March 7, 2013 I wish electric car manufacturers could innovate their vehicles further. For example, shrink the battery size and make it removable. In other words, the driver can bring the battery pack to his house for recharge, then slot it in again for the next journey. In this way, residents living in high storeys can also drive electric cars. Maybe in future I guess, right now lithium batt are still not that suitable for driving... Even aviation grade batts like those used on 787 Dreamliner also got problem. What more consumer type batts.

Topspin 2nd Gear August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 A full charge will normally take 6-8hrs. Only those staying in landed property can charged at their house. Not suitable for Singapore. Saw some reserved lots in Jurong Pt parking lots for electric cars...with electric sockets. Just pay for the parking lot and the charging is free??

Even if able to reduce by 50%, still need some pulley to lift it and a trolley to roll it up the HDB. More suitable for organisations which have ground space for charging point.
