Hmmm...read this commentary over lunch - he raises some interesting points - some I agree with, and some I think he is mistaken.

1. An employment pass should only ever be short term and temporary. It should be a "stop gap" measure for when a specific skill cannot be recruited from within a country. With this, there should be no expectation of automatic renewal.

2. There should be a much greater level of transperancy from the government on how many applications are received, how many rejected (and way) and how many passes no renewed. A lack of transperancy is the enemy of informed democracy and also of good business planning.

3. How do you refuse to renew a re-entry permit? This is the worst issue of the lot he raises. The bar for getting PR should be high - but once received, the bar for (effectively) revoking it should also be very high. It would be interesting to know more about the re-entry permits not renewed.

4. There should NOT be any appeal for failed applications except where

a) there is a change in circumstances

b) the rejection is factually incorrect (eg: salary was incorrectly recorded or similar reasons)

Any thoughts?

issue that HR department is facing now??

it is common [laugh]

According to the writer - yes. But I rather suspect he is overstating it.

In a more general sense, I think that there should be some form of stats released on a quarterly basis with such information (eg: permits applied, approved, rejected, with some broad classifications of the rejected applications)

MOM will not be that transparent, how to tell you the quota is now given to one industry more than the other. They have tighten to meet the complaints of the people that there are too many FT/FW here.

Until more businesses voices out kpkb that without these FT/FW more business will collapse and more people will lost their job. Then they appeal to the people that FT/FW is necessary. 6 months later, back to normal :D

There should be about 1.5 million employment pass and work permit out there. Each of this will cost averagely $200.The total amount add up to a very huge figure each month.
