Elfenstar 3rd Gear July 10, 2012 Share July 10, 2012 (edited) The special tax for Euro 4 passenger car is $1.25 per cc. But from next year onwards, if the car is Euro 5 then the special tax is only $0.40 per cc. 1.5L car: 1500 x $1.25 = $1875 1500 x $0.40 = $600 Savings of $1275 a year. This special tax is on top of the road tax. If it is me, I will go for the diesel one. You need the torque to get this people mover going. Oh that. I didn't know it only applied to Euro 5. I thought it was a blanket tax reduction for diesel passenger vehicles due to them being green. I'm a bit worried about the diesel quality for my long distance malaysian trips. For e.g. I just did 1600kms over the weekend there. Edited July 10, 2012 by Elfenstar ↡ Advertisement
Elfenstar 3rd Gear July 10, 2012 Share July 10, 2012 just booked a mazda 5 over the weekend, with a 14k+ discount from the carnival, effictive paper price is 146K++, which i personnaly is very worth it, IMHO, most practical of the above mentioned lot...parts easy n cheaper than say renault or opel...bigger space than the opel... before i was also aiming at the opel many many gadgets...panoramic roof...adjustable sun shade..etc, etc., but then oc prefer the sliding door...and the comfort of the M5.. FYI, the baisc cost of M5 based on 28K OMV, and 82K COE is about 146K already!!!! Above only MHO, please do not flame me! Cheers! Elfenstar 3rd Gear July 10, 2012 Share July 10, 2012 what i know is most mazda have high fuel consumption. RX8, CX7 ,Mazda 3, Mazda 6 Mazda 5 the whole range I used to get 12.5km/l with a lead foot on my Demio. 16.5km/l while cruising on the NSHW, etc. In fact, now with their skyactive engines, their FC is starting to be the class leaders. Backside itchy for another mpv again.. 17 more swee la..in fact 18 better...!

OC has a say in everything for me except driving dynamics Heng she's very hiao so looks are more important to her than other bits I drove the 2008 Demio (DE series), but sold it off earlier this year. Not on the demio forums though. Quite happy with MCF

Supra Neutral Newbie July 10, 2012 Share July 10, 2012 There are other alternatives. But based on the current car price and COE, it is a far reach. Cars like Mazda Biante, Toyota Noah, Voxy and Honda Stepwagon. Are all range 2.0 litre NA with sliding door. I admit that before my dad went for M5, I asked for the above models. But very expensive and need to put extra deposit for indent basis.

IMHO Well at that time was choosing between the Mz2 DE and the Mz3..but really cannot take the smiley face of the Mz3 so I chose the later...2010 DE still the "frowning face" cat like face...not like the current FL I saw in the showroom during servicing mostly "car smileys" Space wise quite adequate for my needs even on long trips up north...but once these 2 kids of mine grow need to change... IMHO I was among the first batch of buyers for the Mz5 when it was first launched in 2005. At the time, it's features for a jap MPV was class-leading i.e. sliding doors, elec sunroof, auto light, auto wiper, innovative 2nd row seat folding options, sharp handling, non-ah pek design, etc. Reckon it still looks good on the roads and doesn't look outdated despite being 7 years old. Fast forward to 2012, went to view the new Mz5 and expecting more goodies. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The 'smiley face' design looks (and wassup wif the wave thingy on the side??). Everything inside feels the same as the 2005 car. It still lacks important safety features found in most (if not all) conti MPVs like 6-airbags, traction control, 5-star NCAP, etc which in 2012 is inexcusable. In short, after 7 years, the Mz5 not only did not progress but took a step backwards given that the competition and buyers preference and expectations have moved on. And the worst part, it cost $160+k for such a basic car when u could buy the better equipped and engineered Touran, 5008, C4, Zafira Tourer for less money. Realli scratch my head as to who will buy the Mz5 now.....
Supra Neutral Newbie July 12, 2012 Share July 12, 2012 I understand where you coming from. To be frank, this is the only 2.0 litre MPV with sliding door which can be bought from AD. The rest are even more expensive than the price of Mazda 5, though I prefer others. Estima is good. If I have extra S$25k more, I don't mind getting one. One thing I spot differences from M5 Japan and here is the sunroof. To my understanding, sunroof M5 is not available in Japan nor the sunroof comes with a "Optional accessories".
