Lohkyx Clutched April 19, 2012 Share April 19, 2012 many prc FT get in cant even write hello word in c let alone a game, but they can buy straight ace cert that will fool those bald men at local uni
Angchug 3rd Gear April 19, 2012 Share April 19, 2012 Should be easy for him to land a decent job. There is a big shortage for good programmer here especially Singaporean as most company is scare to hire PRC programmer.
Vid Hypersonic April 19, 2012 Share April 19, 2012 Not particularly impressive but his courage and persistent deserved some credits. Not easy for NUS to accept a poly graduate, especially in the computer science field because of the competition in that faculty. Good luck to him. Sosaria Twincharged April 20, 2012 Share April 20, 2012 (edited) Is Computer Science so hot these days, among locals? I thought this IT type of field is now so inundated with cheaper FTs that it's not worthwhile to make a career in it. Anyway, I think this guy is at least "proven" stuff - in the sense that he already has a diploma from a leading local poly, and with merit too. I'm sure then that his GPA is excellent too, given that his project was showcased. So I wonder why or how he can be rejected by local univ? I'd choose him any day, rather than some unknown FT student whose credentials can't really be traced, and furthermore, may possibly suffer from language and adaptability problems. Kungming 1st Gear April 20, 2012 Share April 20, 2012 Coming from poly, his competition (maybe thousands his batch??) is limited. Those FTs are the true cream of the crop, beating millions others to land a scholarship here. There is no chance for our local mate.

Comp sci was the dumping ground during my days in NUS...every year there are many people dropping out or asked to leave.

Shull Turbocharged April 20, 2012 Share April 20, 2012 (edited) Not to pour cold water here.. But the stuff uni teach is markedly different from poly.. Poly focus alot more on hands on and practical application while uni (at least the 1st and 2nd year), focus much more on theoretical calculations. The engineering maths there is simply crazy. Everything has to do with maths. I found out the hard way. The overlapped things i learnt in poly in 1 semester is covered in 1 lecture during my NUS days. Just like him, i love developing new products, be it household stuff or machines.. But all those things i learnt in poly is only applicable in about 10-20% of what they taught in uni.
