Gz0707 4th Gear April 28, 2012 Share April 28, 2012 In pte sector, we call this the PR spin that goes nowhere and reveals nothing. As I recall, the question posed to mindef was if Pte Lee was actually sick and shd not have qualified for combat service in the 1st place. clearly the response has not answered the question. typical establishment answer. ↡ Advertisement

Good-Carbuyer 1st Gear April 29, 2012 Share April 29, 2012 Remembered my first visit to a medical centre because of high fever in SAFTI. The young sa tong without even examining me said this, "Pte, do you know that malingering is a chargeable offence? Better dun let me catch you chao keng ok?" Maybe many before me did that but it was a sobering experience that I was in the army then. I got attend C for my fever. And I did my dental filling in Nee Soon SBMT back then & the young dental officer kept telling me not to eat food for at least the next few hours. By late afternoon the little piece of filling came off without me even drinking a bit of water. So much so for medical/dental treatment in the service then Hope today's 3G army does a better job of treating the father-mother sons as they have promised. One recruit during my time studied easily identified symptoms over the weekends. On Mondays he could fool the MO for MC easily.
Good-Carbuyer 1st Gear April 29, 2012 Share April 29, 2012 They wanted the outside world to see they 'treat' us very well but in reality, we all know the truth. I rem when I was enlisted and boarded the 3-tonner for the journey to CMPB, the Cpl in the tonner shouted at us to 'smile' at the family members and no one should cry......'cos one of the guys were actually sobbing...... Should had brought maids along?
Good-Carbuyer 1st Gear April 29, 2012 Share April 29, 2012 The surgeon must be 华佗再世 or Asclepius. He didn't even touch the patient right? [laugh] No need to, if he practised Di Men Jun Jia
Good-Carbuyer 1st Gear April 29, 2012 Share April 29, 2012 Can't blame the MOs for being cynical and nasty towards everyone reporting sick. In my infantry unit, for example, a mess boy walked with a limp around camp but everytime he booked out, WALAH! he could walked normally again. There must be a nasty curse operating inside the camp. One recruit during my NS days also limping when he is aware of others around. Otherwise he was as fit as can be
Good-Carbuyer 1st Gear April 29, 2012 Share April 29, 2012 lol, when you see them, it's when they are on exercise with you or on cover is it? how to be sent to hospital etc like that? if they were sent to hospital, you also cant see them.. so if on cover, and they are reading books (nothing to do like you said), what else do you think they should be doing? hold needles, sit on chair's edge, eyes wide open? I rather medics have nothing to do than sipeh boh eng..'cos that means something went wrong +1 if Medic busy means got casualty(ies).
Good-Carbuyer 1st Gear April 29, 2012 Share April 29, 2012 I hope they seriously practice what this colonel says and walk the talk after each unfortunate accident. This is the least they can and must do. Another issue is whether those commanders on the ground does what the higher-ups dictated in terms of TSRs and other strict safety guidelines. All you need is an over-zealous PC, OC or CO who some how feels that unit excellence rides high above safety and their men especially the weaker ones will be in peril... From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/...ory_793345.html Thorough and independent probes on death of national servicemen Published on Apr 28, 2012 THE Ministry of Defence (Mindef) would like to respond to issues raised in Forum and Forum Online letters following the recent death of a national serviceman ('NSF dies after collapsing during training exercise'; April 18). Mindef offers its deepest sympathies to the bereaved family. We take a very serious view of every incident resulting in injury or death. When these occur, the procedures in place mandate that relevant safety features are reviewed vigorously at all levels - from the top leadership to junior commanders - to prevent a recurrence. Every incident involving the death of a national serviceman, whether training-related or otherwise, is thoroughly investigated by an independent committee chaired by a senior public servant from outside Mindef, with a senior doctor from the public sector as one of its members. The investigation will look into the cause of death and recommend improvements to procedures, where applicable. Lessons learnt and recommendations by the committee are disseminated to commanders and individual soldiers. In addition, the police will also conduct a separate and independent investigation into the incident and submit their findings to the coroner. Where warranted, the coroner will hold a Coroner's Inquiry, which is held in open court. Mindef is also committed to rendering assistance to the families of servicemen in these difficult times. Compensation will be provided to the families of servicemen whose deaths are due to service, based on similar principles and practices used by the civil courts or the Workmen's Compensation Act. Additional compensation is also given for injuries and deaths sustained during military training and operations. Appeal channels on compensation are also available via the Compensation Board chaired by a non-Mindef senior legal service officer. Bereaved families of servicemen and servicemen who suffer permanent disability in the course of duty can also seek further help via our various welfare schemes. For injuries due to service, Mindef will pay for all the medical expenses and supplies during treatment in government and restructured hospitals or clinics. These measures mitigate the impact of injuries and loss of lives to servicemen and their families. But Mindef would like to assure national servicemen, their families and the public that our utmost and continuing priority is to put in place a robust safety system that will prevent all avoidable injuries and deaths. We will learn from every incident to continually strengthen and improve this safety system. Colonel Kenneth Liow Director, Public Affairs Mindef Angone believes in lip service? Gz0707 4th Gear April 29, 2012 Share April 29, 2012 My batch of boys in tanks, compared to SIR units, I know we will lose to them on dismounted role. the SIR ah bengs carry GPMG and and heavy weapons on long missions. They are bloody tough, imo. if fail SOC in SIR unit, sure lau kui. The 3G army, I dunno. The recruits I took on after a 2 year disruption became really soft. I kena verbal warning from OC for punishing recruit. sigh.
