Livorno midfielder Piermario Morosini has died after collapsing on the pitch in Saturday's Serie B match at Pescara, with the match abandoned after 31 minutes.

 

Morosini, 25, was rushed to hospital after medical staff attended to him on the pitch for a suspected heart attack, but died on arrival. The game was then called off with the other players leaving the field in tears.

 

"He suffered a cardiac arrest. Unfortunately he was already dead when the ambulance arrived. He never regained consciousness," announced Doctor De Blasi.

 

Italian media reports claimed that a police car had blocked the ambulance's way into the stadium.

 

"I don't know if the ambulance was late, but I know that the entrance onto the pitch was blocked by a vehicle,'' Iannascoli added. "Morosini collapsed, he tried to get back up but then collapsed again.''

 

The former Italy Under-21 international was on loan at Livorno from Serie A side Udinese.

 

As a result of the tragedy, all Serie A games have been called off this weekend.

 

This is the 2nd case of professional footballer suffering from heart attack on the pitch. But it is fatal this time. RIP to Morosini.

That's coz they put alot of stress and pushing their bodies to the limit all the time.

 

One fine day, the body will not able to take it anymore.

according to reports, he had a real unlucky life...

But ppl always dismiss the warning signs and thought its normal to feel that way and endure all the way. Its also due to peer pressure and 'face'. You don't wan to be looked as 'weak' in front of other players and coach.

 

So keep pushing to the limit until the heart gives up

Just read that he was a young orphan. Poor man orphan at a young age. Orphan always at a disadvantage.

Seems like these cases of young people suddenly collapsing and dying is not just in singapore, but a world-wide thing that can happen anywhere.

 

We rarely hear of such thing happening 10 or 20 years ago.

 

Must be something to do with changes in lifestyle, diet or upbringing in the past decade or two. What could be the critical factor, I wonder?

Quite sad cos he tried to get up when he collapsed but fell, then tried again but fell again.

And another sad thing is that the ref continued the play and did not look back even after 1 or 2 fellow teammates shouted at the ref to alert him of the situation

engines have redlines and humans have MHR and their redlines are usually less than that.

 

how long do they operate their hearts at near the MHR do you know?
