2BDriver Hypersonic October 5, 2014 Share October 5, 2014 That's y if visibility is low, have to slow down even further or find a petrol kiosk or RNR to rest first I was driving behind them (MB S350 & BMW 730i) along NSHW in wet road, they just drifted into the center divider in super great impact and bounced back to the left side diving into the road shoulder deep drain. Super car 0 vs Mother Nature & Physics
Achtung 6th Gear October 5, 2014 Share October 5, 2014 Sad man... those large vehicles are scary n they travel fast n menacingly. Proton Saga is just like a foot ball to the huge trailer impact, my advise is look all round and keep safety distance with big trucks, long container trailers and powerful tour coaches. TameDriver Twincharged October 5, 2014 Share October 5, 2014 Sad man... those large vehicles are scary n they travel fast n menacingly. Also Beware of Sideswipe from the rear of the big vehicles (esp those long ones or trailers) when they changing lanes. 2BDriver Hypersonic October 5, 2014 Share October 5, 2014 Sad man... those large vehicles are scary n they travel fast n menacingly. These super huge and long vehicle drivers are over fatigue in driving pressure due to long hours and distance, they become reckless at times when they lost concentration of other smaller vehicle that could have failed in emergency braking due to their heavy weighted vehicle dashing momemtum that cause fatal collision. 2BDriver Hypersonic October 5, 2014 Share October 5, 2014 Also Beware of Sideswipe from the rear of the big vehicles (esp those long ones or trailers) when they changing lanes. U meant both aquaplaned @ same time? I meant 2 different accident cases along the NSHW long distance drive trip to Penang holidays, MB S320 side swept by a truck and spinned 3 ~ 4 turns at Tangkat, Near to Ipoh, the BMW 730i E-braking to avoid a sudden slow down of the front traffic and drifted into left first then spinned back to right towards divider collision and bounced back to the left ended up into the deep drain. All happened in the rains with slippery wet road.
Shibadog Turbocharged October 5, 2014 Share October 5, 2014 Accident occured at the north-bound 256 km mark of the North-South Highway near Ipoh ? I Wonder the reporter got the location right or not , last year I got a speed trap camera ticket at 301 mark of NSHW before, the exact location of the 4 camera's is before Shell Kiosk and Sungei Besih Toll gate I guess it's 256km marker on E1 not E2. 301km on E2 is AES camera for northbound traffic (heading towards KL) but sometimes I see a mobile cam under the flyover at 302km too, aiming southbound (towards Seremban/Johor)
Nzy Twincharged October 6, 2014 Share October 6, 2014 My face was pale to read the news and my wife said drive trip is even more dangerous that air bound flight. I think what your wife said is true. I read in an article that people are more likely to die on their way to the airport than on the plane. Forgot where I read that already.
2BDriver Hypersonic October 6, 2014 Share October 6, 2014 1) Could be their first time along wet road? 2) Shortage of heavy truck-drivers can be among the reasons. 3) That BMW could had worn shock-absorbers. 1) Mother Nature of road conditions are namely "wet slippery and strong wind", they might have under estimate it's hidden power that could cause their super car to lost out of control. 2) Be it big or small vehicle, the driver hold the steering with inconsiderate and aggressive character, it will turns the vehicle into a Mass Destructive Weapon that would kills. 3) Owner of such luxury car can effort to maintain and service their super car in good condition unless it is a sudden failure of the crucial safety car part in the drive trip. What I saw was the BMW 730i starts in hard braking and steered left side to avoid collission into the front sudden slow down vehicle, but the centrafugal force pushed it back to the right and the driver might have hastily counter steers back to the right that caused the BMW 730i to skid and spins into collission. My advise to all drivers is, "Please Slow Down in Bad Weather Conditions" late arrival it's better than Never Arrive !
Holdenutessv Turbocharged October 6, 2014 Share October 6, 2014 (edited) Any better/safer to drive Landrover Defender along that road? If the other vehicle is those much smaller bnb cars, you might be just fine. If it's a truck, there is still a significant risk of fatality. (Maybe a new Volvo will do better) This is probably because Defenders are exactly considered as safe cars by todays standards since it's a 80s-90s car with minor changes to the vehicular safety system. It doesn't even have a proper safety cage and crumple zone. So in a serious collision, the force of impact isn't being absorbed by the car's crumple zones, instead it go directly to the people inside. But it's still a pretty tough car because of the ladder chassis and tough metal. Anyway, you wouldn't want to speed in a Defender along NSHW though, especially those lifted and with off-road wheels. It's a tall vehicle, not really stable in higher speeds and Defenders are known to have weak roof strength. So in a roll over situation, the whole top will just crumble. Nzy Twincharged October 6, 2014 Share October 6, 2014 Landrover Defender a little better than that flattened Proton Saga, TS mentioned. No idea how a new Volvo could withstand being hit by a bus/truck, just like a Landrover Defender. I think the landrover will definitely do better than a sedan. The problem with crashing into a bus or truck is that their bumpers are usually alot higher than a car's bumper. So the car's crumple zone doesn't even help since the truck/bus goes straight to where the passengers are.
Neutralsg 5th Gear October 6, 2014 Share October 6, 2014 (edited) Very sad to read this news. Pray the bereaved can be consoled while the killed RIP. This accident could have been avoided IF ONLY the aggressive and probably a conceited, egoistic and senseless trailer driver who was the root cause of the accident had been more patient, sensible and RESPONSIBLE road user. Alas, unlike past heavy vehicle drivers of Malaysia who tend to be more courteous, sensible and responsible, today's heavy vehicle drivers who took over their older predecessors are a different animal altogether. The trend of having more reckless heavy vehicle drivers of today seems obvious if you had driven and make comparison between driving on Malaysian roads back in the 70s and today. Drive safe folks and give way even if you have the rights for the sake of being safe. It's better to lose a war and win the battle than winning the war and loses a battle. Accident Sat 4 Oct 2014 Mum and daughter killed in horrific crash on North-South Highway http://www.tnp.sg/news/mum-and-daughter-killed-horrific-crash-north-south-highway A family trip home to celebrate Hari Raya Haji ended in tragedy when a mother and her daughter were killed in an accident on the north-bound 256 km mark of the North-South Highway near Ipoh on Saturday (Oct 4) morning. Norhayati Wook, 50, and Siti Yuslianis Roslan, 20, an undergrad at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), died at the scene from severe head injuries while three other siblings suffered minor injuries, Malaysian media reported Muhammad Yusriman, 23, who was driving a Proton Saga BLM, survived the crash and was admitted to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) in Ipoh. He could not stop muttering sadly "I'm sorry mom" when reporters interviewed him as he felt guilty over the incident, reported Astro Awani news. He claimed that a trailer which had been hit by another trailer from behind crashed into the rear of the car he was driving. Yusriman, a bank employee, told The New Straits Times that through his rear-view mirror, he saw a trailer overtaking another trailer as the road descended after passing through the Menora tunnel. “I saw a trailer on the left lane swerving to its left to avoid the trailer which was overtaking it on the right lane. (The trailer that swerved to the left ended up a slope and overturned.) "After that, the (right lane) trailer sped towards my car and rammed into the back of the car. He said members of the public helped them out of the car, reported The Sun. "Our family were on the way from Bukit Sentosa, Rawang to Lenggong as my mother and father are from there," he said. He and his brother Muhammad Yusrizal, 25, suffered minor injuries while their younger sister Siti Yusliana, 12, suffered cuts on her heels. Kuala Kangsar OCPD ACP Ghuzlan Salleh said the driver of the trailer who is in his 40s is being detained for further investigation. Neutralsg 5th Gear October 6, 2014 Share October 6, 2014 (edited) Fully agree with you bro :) Just read the news about the F1 in Suzuka. It says it all about the law of physics against man's skill and machine's will. In other words, regardless how skilful a driver is and how well a super vehicle will execute in various conditions, nothing can deny the law of physics from taking place. Centrifugal force etc.. Even the world best driver can't win over mother nature power and practical physics on the road.
