I think the writer only go to the park during office hours. Try going on weekends, the park will be packed!!! I have been going to various parks all over SG for walks over the weekend. There are ppl everywhere.

My only time to walk in a park during office hours was during my reservist and we had a co-hesion day and walked from Mt Faber to Hort Park. There was little to no visitors during our walk. But my other two times visiting this trail during weekends were packed with visitors. Ppl were hanging out at Mt Faber, looking over sentosa. Ppl were sitting ard the tall Alexander Bridge having picnics, taking photos n I even saw a group of XMM practising their dance routine there. Ppl were wondering ard Hort Park viewing the various plants, kids running ard like mad.

Ask the writer to try visit any park during weekends n see if it will still be quiet. Weekday, everyone needs to work or go school or do their daily chores. Only tourists are so free to roam ard the parks.

i agreed with TS. I have a kid and we do not like shopping center. very crowded and parking is difficult. on the other side, many parks are well maintain and very new. not only there r few soul visiting our beautiful parks. even the play ground at my block got very few Singaporean kids, my kid is the rare one. but there are many FT kids there.

For a tiny island sgp does have quite a few green spots / parks / waterways for the pple to relax and enjoy. This is probably due to the efforsts of NPark in recent years. The park connectors system is another good example.

As for the billion-dollars Marina South Park, i find it too 'artificial' to spend that kind of money just to simulate overseas climates for exotic plants. We can simply showcase tropical plants which are authentics. I guess if the old man likes it, nothing can stop it even though it is VERY EXPENSIVE!

Will tourists from such climates appreciate seeing plants in an artificail environment when they see it everyday in their door step?

cannot say like that leh, in colder climate, tropical plants are also very popular as well, they also have green house to house tropical plants, & tropical plants can be bought at many places for indoor use, where the temperature is moderated.

How come Mr. Gordon Reid, who has "lived and worked here", need to go to a tourist visitor centre to ask for info?

I am born & breed in Sunny Singapore, but I also pick up a tourism guide when I return from oversea trip once in a while. Sometimes, we just forget the nice things we have & need a reminder, & there are many that we may have missed, or are new.

Nothing wrong in my opinion.

Thats why they are FT who outsmart local scholars

This is not about "outsmarting" nor about scholar stories.

This is about selective publishing. For some reasons or another, some mass-media editor still whore-shiip angmoh talk-cocks as Gospels to be listened to...

Take this publishing of this letter in TODAY paper. They simply ignore or forget our NEA guys and environment-driven NGOs doing great jobs opening and creating access to many nature reserves for Singaporean's re-creation.

And also don't forget the NEA's Bukit Timah Nature Reserve trail..
