Turning off your engine at red light?

I most often hear this way of saving petrol.

But I also heard that stop-starting your engine too often causes damage to it.

But what about the current stop-start technologies offered by newer cars? Is it same as manually stop-starting?

Is this true? Can any bro comment?

I have not tried this before. But I don't think it is going to save much petrol.

Those new cars obviously have better starter system to keep On/Off at traffic light.

Also starting a car do not use up more petrol as now fuel injection is very precise. Not the last time carburetor fuel flooding method.

Over a certain number of minutes, it will save petrol, but a little bit. Over the long run it mayb e significant. Otherwise manufacturers won't introduce this in new vehicles. I think the merc cgi got this feature or is it BMW?

The car battery will be gone in no time if this is done during every traffic light stop. It also causes the starter motor to wear out faster. IMHO, its not worth it.

Cheers

You have made a valid point.

No wonder you can lose 20kg. You can start a new slimming centre programme, "How to lose weight while driving and yet save money." Except you won't get much girls on heavy makeup to be your customer.

This idea would be very nice for Mythbusters to test.

However in the real world, I think it is penny wise pound foolish.

If a person really needs to save petrol until like that, he should not have bought a car in the first place.
