I fancy ditching the Subaru boxer engine for a Honda K20A [laugh]

Nice body with good weight distribution but no confidence with Subaru NA engine [laugh]

Agree. Na shouldn't compare with FI. 86 can't be compared to 350Z since there is a huge difference in displacement. should be closer to mx5 and rx8.

200k price tag for this car will really put alot of potential buyers away (including me) since there are so many cars to choose from at this price. i would rather get a megane RS than this jap made with that amount of money.

i dun thk 350z is FI. but i agree that if its mx5/rx8 range, the price shd b more like 160k than 190k.

I agreed with you,i never regret buying the 370z,even now already 3 yrs old,the design still look nice,i think much better than the 86/BRZ.

i never loved the 350z cos its so rare n niche in the local performance car scene that i thot it was all looks no go until one time i went w a fren to see a roadster n we checked out the specs. drool man. beautiful sleeper car and rare!! [thumbsup]

It's a Toyota body with a Subaru engine.

Yep, Toyota designed the head of the engine block (intakes, D-4S direct injection etc) while Subaru contributed the bottom end with a boxer block.

But i still won't buy it. I will rather much use the money and get a used Elise instead and coincidentally, its using a Toyota engine as well. :D

no, they will go buy WRXs instead and kpkb Toyota 86 no power / no turbo / no big neh neh

But do not think the WRX can drift like 86. Those who buy the 86 is for drifting, it is just like the Nissan Silvia. Therefore, still have some rich people buying this car to speed and drift at the same time at ECP carpark.

wrong. FT is not used anywhere. FT86 were the concepts. "Future Touring" 86. Scion is the FRS, Toyota is the GT86 or in Japan, just 86. Subaru is the BRZ.

nice... but damn local car prices... stuck with my jalopy instead... (i actually don't like the TRD kit.. too fussy and swoopy for my liking, i think other aftermarket kits will look better... like the TRA-KYOTOs. WOO!)

ARCHIVED IN : Toyota, 86, Borneo Motors, AE86 Photos: Low Fai Ming

From our first impressions, the Toyota 86, as it will officially be known here, is a splendid driver's car. Nimble, adjustable and light on its feet. Quite simply - NICE!

Burnpavement.com and N.GINE readers are a smart lot, all of you are aware of the history linkages with the AE86, GT2000, yadda yadda, so we won't bore you with that. What's important to note is that there will be two main models. The base S-model will be available in 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic, both at the same price of $183,988. The GS-model will have Smart Entry, Smart Start, HID lights, paddle-shifters for the automatic transmission, frameless rear-view mirror, digital speedo, amongst other things. A GS specced 86 will require you to fork out $10,000 more.

Early birds get a free upgrade to the full TRD bodykit you see in the photos below. A bit fussy we admit, but we like nonetheless! Want the full TRD goodie pack? Drop by Borneo Motors for more information on their the top-of-the-range TRD Performance package.

Oh, did we forget to mention that Toyota wants you to take this out for a test-drive? Because even if you can't own one now, they'd be happy for you to pin up the lovely shots from their brochure to remind yourself to aspire towards owning one in the near future.

It looks great in the flesh too, especially in Lightning Red. This car will stand out from the sea of mundane looking cars on the road.

  • 1337296847_dsc_8140.jpg

Check this out! The fully specced top-of-the-range TRD Performance package 86.

  • 1337296848_dsc_8117.jpg

GS model will come with digital speedo.

  • 1337297012_dsc_8121.jpg

Push these buttons to arouse your senses.

  • 1337297013_dsc_8143.jpg

The automatic gearshift column looks like a manual one! So cool!

  • 1337297120_dsc_8209.jpg

Cars lined up for the media to blast around. Everyone was waiting in anticipation.

  • 1337297122_dsc_8164.jpg

The 86 makes use of it's low centre of gravity and 200 bhp unit to power through quick directional changes with aplomb. The automatic variant is already a nice drive, but the manual shifter is an added joy to use with its short throw and slick shifting action.

  • 1337297123_dsc_8158.jpg

VSC stability control ensured that if you don't intend to make use of the 86's rear-wheel drive 'abilities', you'd still be safe around a wet corner even at high speeds.

  • 1337297123_dsc_8188.jpg

But if you want to, this car will still gladly go sideways!

  • 1337298577_dsc_8222.jpg

    Handsome in black too.

  • 1337298578_dsc_8290.jpg

We'll share more when we get the full test-drive. But for now, we'd put our money down on this one. You should too.
