Sunny and Lancer are still hot among private instructors. Vios command a higher premium and with the COE at an all time high, the trend is going back to Lancer and Sunny.

Private instructors change car every few years. If you noticed, most of them are getting 2nd hand cars now.

I ever saw a Lancer EX 2.0 used as a learner car. Number plate is 5588 if I'm not wrong.

Nowadays you can find many "funny" car model use as learner car. Unlike last time, only would see sunny, civic and lancer. But since there is no more lancer and sunny model, maybe they will focus using city or vios?! But also now can see many instructor use hatchback as learner car.

i also notice private instructors like to register their car under wife's name so that when they sell it, they advertise "Female school teacher's car, well looked after, low mileage, only used between home-school" when the truth is far from that.... :D

You sure it was a WRX? I remember seeing one like that used as a learner's car, with bodykit and WRX bonnet scoop, but closer inspection revealed it was a normal Impreza TS. Not sure if this is the same as the one you saw.

yeah man.

WRX as L plate.

But nowadays instruction cars come with a brake pedal on the passenger side, meant for the instructor to use if learners don't brake in time. Don't think anyone will want to buy a car with that!

Also, instruction cars have to be registered with LTA for that purpose so not sure if they can be simply sold as normal.

Turbocharged

Driving schools use certain models in their fleets. Does it mean that these are modes suitable as value-for-money, no-frills, tough-as-rock choice for buyers who want to buy a new/used reliable and low maintenance car? There must be some reasons similar to above why they are chosen by driving schools. [:)]

SSDC is affiliated with Honda. Iirc, they only use Hondas. Not too sure about the other 2 schools.

However, there are certain truth that driving schools select those models with cost as a major consideration. Not so much for private instructors though.. Some of them might fancy something more exotic for their personal ride.

Local car rental companies is also a good guide. Look at their budget models and you'll notice more Toyotas. Not talking about internationals so much as they cater more to foreigners and tend to have more conti models such as Ford etc.

Eh no way that's possible! It's merely a TS with some upgrades making it look like a wrx. By the way, there are lots of impreza TS that look like the real WRX. Go outside ubi test centre and take note of the plate, check on the LTA website. I did that before. Anyway I was fooled at one point of time when i was still learning driving.

Oic, lock the pedal and use it as foot-rest for front passenger !
