Try not to get those blue transparent made in China ones. I know they are cheap to buy they are also not reliable when it comes to connection. It easily disconnects and trying get it to connect again is very troublesome. I have one I check it aside. Piece of crap.

Buy from obdtoolstore.com the seller is in HK. Takes around 3 working days depending on the courier service you select. Payment thru paypal. I bought the OBDlink MX. The seller even took a photo of the package and email it to me before sending it out.

He has scanning tools for American cars, European cars & Japanese cars. Wide range of useful tools. If you know how to use them.

I'm using those blue MIC, cost 20plus.

Use only when require to check temp, error code... Once in a bluemoon.

So far so good connection is steady, using the torque app DL from Google play store free.

It good enough for me to use as anyway I dun really know how to read the rest of the reading LOL.

So $20 price range is just right for me instead of buying a higher price unit which I may not know to fully untiles it.

The Engine Light is very annoying, that's part of the reason why I am looking for this device. Saw it from some forums, this device able to tell what error code it has and clear the engine light. I will buy one, hook up to my car and see what really goes wrong. Rather than sending my car to the workshop and spent extra dollars on the repair without knowing what is the actual problem.

Thank you all for the replies, I will buy the 20 bucks one and try.

Bluetooth or standard reader will read engine fault code, but not always 100%.

Some codes are specific to the car manufacturer which needs a more sophisticated reader, albeit more expensive.

Some obdii reader will not read certain protocol.

If you have one that does not read your car's protocol, you've wasted your money.

I've one of those bluetooth one, they will not communicate to a Swift or Proton.

So getting the cheap one may not be that "cheap" in the end.

If you want to lessen the risk, you can get a more expensive one that reads more protocol

Say, your reader can comm with your car and it shows the error code.

You can clear it, but if the fault is still there, the error code will come back again, until you fix that problem.

You will be disappointed, if it is so smart , maker will not be selling them in the market at toy prices.

Kb27 is right. If getting the Bluetooth OBD2, check if it supports your vehicle make and model. I have 2 and they work well with Toyota, Mitsubishi (2006) and Mazda (2005) cars.

If you are having persistent fault code, it is good to know what causes it and get second opinion from a ws...and ultimately fix it if it's some serious fault. Unless you know why the fault code exist and just trying to clear it (eg. Going catless, oxygen sensors error...).

The BT OBD2 I ordered from Q00 took 3 weeks to deliver.

Ha, thank you all for the advices. This is really a great place to collect valuable opinions before act.

I happened to know a friend who has the 20 bucks mini bluetooth obd device that he bought from qoo10. I will borrow from him and try out.

In my case is that my wife is the one who driving the car, she keeps complain to me about the engine light since few months ago. We had sent our car to ws, but they couldn't find out the root cause, as the behaviour is intermittent.

My plan is that I will use "torque" to log down the error code, when the engine light doesn't goes off. At least I have some evidences.

Tip: Don't leave it plugged into your car. It will suck your battery and overheat and possibly just will be spoilt the next day you get in your car.

OBDLinkMX-OBDII-Reader-3.jpg

I'm using this. Those $20 ones cannot make it.

I pair it with my Android tablet. Connection is stable. It has a auto power off function. So you dun need to worry if you forgot to unplug it. It will not drain your batt.

Other dan the usual scan for error and clear CEL it also let you see real time performance of your car. Boost, hp, torque, coolant temperatures, air intake temp etc etc. Too many to mention.

It has a proprietary app downloadable from Google play store foc or you can use it with your fav 3rd party app like Torque.

obdtoolstore.com

Make sure your car is compatible. If unsure email the seller and ask. Seller is in HK. I chose the express shipping so it took only 3 working days to reach my doorstep. Price is on the website. I paid using paypal.
