CAN YOU SPEAK CHINESE?

Funny thing is, I have been hearing our own Chinese locals complaining that these FTs only speak Chinese.

I have never hear it from my Malays or Indians friends. I thought it is them who should be more irritated.

I believe they are even more frustrated but they won't voice it in a forum that I believe is still predominantly ethnic Chinese forumers. Maybe they quietly voice out their frustration in their own forums in their language. The worse thing is that there are quite a lot of Chinese "chauvinist" in these forums. No wonder we seldom hear someone identifying themselves as being a non chinese in this MCF. Remember the nasty comments about rubbing lard in the lion head some months back. That will piss off any Malay bro from visiting MCF for sure. Not to mention, we sometimes get too carried away and post in Chinese dialects or Mandarin instead (me just as guilty).

Just a question... how would most of us reply if a Malay or Indian bro wrote a thread lambasting about those China PRC in Singapore being able to speak only Chinese to them? I think some Chinese chauvanist among us will blast them to kingdom come. right or not? Some of us may even ask, why don't our malay or Indian bro learn mandarin instead, blah blah....

Have lar! but we see it as 'no point complaining'. Later, others will say we are racist! How? But my practice is if the one concern try her best to accomodate me and serve me with a smile i will try not to be a pain in the ass.....but if otherwise i will walk away!

Biatch is another way to say the word bitch. The small tweak in pronunciation gives the word emphasis or an air of humor depending on situation. The popular rapper Snoop Dogg was the first to use the term "biatch!" on the multi-platinum selling album "The Chronic". The term was further popularized in his rap classic solo album titled "Doggy Style" on his hit single from that album "Gin and Juice". His style of slang changed rap, youth culture, and slang in a way that still resonates today.

I can speak mandarin for sure. However, the images of uncles and aunties who can only speak dialects and who are working as stall helpers in our neighbourhood coffeeshop crossed my thoughts instantly when I was posed that qn "Can you speak chinese?"

Why cant we have these local aunties and uncles to serve us in dialects rather?

Why cant we give these better and more conducive and likely higher paid and simple jobs to our local aunties and uncles?

I didnt get i want there and then. The hotpot operator had already relocated.

I can understand your frustration with mainland Chinese in SGP but to take it out on a CSO at Giant is kindof below the belt, isn't it?

<<Story>>

I notice that most retail outlets and small eateries are filled with foreign customer service (Pinoys, China...especially).

I was at Turf City a couple of days back and was hunting for the Steamboat Restuarant. Maybe they had relocated and I was searching in vain.

Went into Giant Supermarket and was trying to ask for confirmation about the "Missing" Hotpot. Encountered this chinese lady customer service who was playing her handphone while standing at one location of the mart:-

Me :- Can you please tell me if the Steamboat Restuarant is still around? (In english)

She :- Can you speak chinese? (In mandarin)

Me:- No, I dont know chinese. (In mandarin)

Apparently, she is one china chineses foreign talents in SG.

It left me thinking, instead of apologising for not able to understand our common language, she could just blatantly "demand" others to speak "her" language. WTF customer service is that?

FRUIT FOR THOUGHTS:_ Why not GIANT employ our local aunties and uncles ? I dont mind speaking hokkien, teochew, cantonese to them when seeking their service; as compared to being asked to speak chinese by all these #!%*!$%*%#!^

Thanks for viewing and comments.

If u ask many employers, it is not that they dont want to employ locals. Those young singaporeans are hopelessly lazy and ambitious. Old ones walk also got problem how to employ them? Dnt blame the employers. If u place an ad in the newspaper today, i guarantee those who come for interview, at least 80% foreign talents.

Local singaporeans are either fully employed or they dont need to work
