Help, am considering to trade in my 09' Evo X Sst to new merc C180K.

Not sure if is a downgrade for me or an upgrade.

My wife n kids feels uncomfortable on my current rides, due to stiff suspension, n abit torquey.

Evo vs c180

2L vs 1.6L

350bhp vs 150bhp

9km/L vs 12km/L

$1300++ installment vs $1500 /mth

Servicing n maintenance more expensive than C180K

Omv 39k vs 31k

Intrest 1.88 vs 2.2%

Please share your view, if is wise to change this new C180K.

You forgot to factor in insurance.

If you are factoring in pure monthly payments, it looks a little scary.

insurance for the Merc should be cheaper than his evo right?

The new 335i or the S4, or S5 sportback are also option, if you are willing to spend a little more.

Looking at these brands, If pay more with bigger risk, than i should keeps my evo's as these car easily lose 20k - 30k when sell.Entry level for big brand is safer.

Yup so can save more if buy Merc.

But looking at the monthly installments, looks like 10 year loan.

If he is taking advantage of the "lower" vehicle interest rates and using capital to get better ROI then good. Otherwise .....

Life is not always about more horses and more speed. You have played enough as a single and now have a wife and kid. Changing to the Merc will do good to your family. There are at least 6 airbags in that car compare to the evo, and that window bag is important for your kid sitting behind.

Interior trim and material is way better in fit and quality than the evo (you don't get hard plastic at all, every part is covered in fabric or in soft plastic).

I would say its an upgrade from the evo to the Merc.

I think evo has also about 6 airbags, ESP, as well as AWD traction. But of course comfort & refinement is poor on Mitsubishi. I should know I own 2 Mitsubishi before.

But IMO, its more important your family sits comfy than your own enjoyment of speed. I own evo before, & I know the performance are hard to beat, for the price, but sometimes, you just have to moved on, as at different stage of your life, & piority. At least you get to enjoy the evo, like I did. [:p]

Just curious: can you not change your suspensions to a softer one for comfort of your wife and kids? or adjust the current one to the softest setting? downside is your daily driving experience becomes 'soft', but on some days, you still can reset it for some hard driving.

Their complaints on 'too torquey' can be overcome by you adopting a more 'gentle' driving style, not an issue.

Problem with twin clutch is, it's manual transmission, but auto drive, so at 1st gear, the system half clutch for u, can be jerky, bcos u cant control it.

10 years ago, I'd say keep the Evo.

Today, no way. Surely the Merc.

Speed isn't everything. In fact, as you get older, speed becomes a lot less important. I have an Audi and a Merc, and although the Merc is much much slower than the Audi, I will drive the Merc over the Audi any day. It makes me not mind the traffic jams and bad drivers. It turns me into a calmer person.

Refinement is something you can enjoy 100% of the time. Speed, maybe 5%.

Came from the EVO X to a used 5 series due to family commitments like yours. never regretted it. Spore driving makes it hard to fully utilise what the EVO is meant for/capable of. What you want is for your family to have a comfortable, smooth ride everyday. The bigger boot space is an added plus for prams and such. Another push factor for me then was the announcement of Mit selling the lancer platform/design to proton. Pushes the EVO down a notch in terms of exclusivity. So unless you are a trackie and need the EVO for trackdays, I would say go for the merc. on a side note, you shd consider the C200K instead

Supersonic

Best thing is, every 2.5 -3yrs, can easily trade in without any top up for a new MB. Worst senario is only need to top up 10-15k if market is bad.

Can share how did u come to this conclusion?

(edited)

it's an upgrade in some areas and a downgrade in others so to me it's lateral....

built quality and materials of a Mercy is better.

raw performance of the evo will crush this baby entry of a Merc

so at the end of the day, is what suits what you want to suit and the price you want to suit.

but if i were you?

i'd say, "no way Jose!"

1.6liter Mercy ? Thats like a Rolex quartz made of plastic.

i'd stick to the Evo which is like a grand Seiko, in its right place .

[cool]

in case you dont know, i own a Mercy, so my views are definitely not partial

As some say: to each his own.

I still prefer the "instant-power-on-demand" of cars like evo though you are quite right to say in sgp the opportunities are limited to make the demand, not impossible though, it depends on which part of sgp i am driving, and the traffic condition, at the time. [:)]

Some prefer comfy / quite journeys in their cars, others enjoy the rumbles from the exhaust even at idling speed, and the winching sounds from the turbo when "its on fire".

With a high power car, the driver still can choose to drive gently, but a so-so power car cant provide spireted driving when the ocassion arises.
