Aventador 6th Gear April 2, 2012 Share April 2, 2012 True story - many years back I turned into Wallich street just infront of White house, which leads to Maxwell road Traffic Police HQ (when they were still based there). My phone rang, and I pull to the side and stopped to answer the phone. As I was talking, a TP bike on the way back to HQ stop beside me and summon me on the spot for illegal parking while I was talking. the marking was a single yellow line (infront were the parallel parking lots which were full) I was damn dulan and immediately park the car and when to the TP HQ to talk to the senior officer. I asked him, if answering the phone while driving is an offense, and stopping by the side of the road to answer is an offense, then what should we do? He could not answer me and ask me to submit appeal in writing. Ultimately the fine was waived ↡ Advertisement

Simonsoh 2nd Gear April 2, 2012 Share April 2, 2012 i am pretty sure stationary at traffic lights, talking on phone or texting is perfectly legal. but am surprised that if its not used to communicate to someone, the handphone can be on the hand when car is moving also! must be true since crediable source. but the question is if i am caught phone on hand, is it my responsibility to prove i was mere adjusting ringing volume or is it TP's job to prove I was smsing someone? Jamstart 1st Gear April 2, 2012 Share April 2, 2012 I remember reading somewhere that you can drive with one hand but you have to let the other hand free. This means that your hand should not be holding anything, like cigar, hp or even towel. So be careful when you are on the road, not even a can of coke or orh pee sai. Steptronic Supercharged April 2, 2012 Share April 2, 2012 even in carpark, when the engine is on is considered illegal, my friend got his phone confiscated in ubi carpark. lol. How about texting on a mobile while holding car key in the hand even you are away from car - still illegal?

As per rule, you cannot have one hand free too. Left hand at 10'o clock position and right hand at 2'o clock position of the steering. Sosaria Twincharged April 2, 2012 Share April 2, 2012 (edited) I believe the TP will knock on your window and give you a warning, but it is not exactly a "handphone" offence. If the light turns green though, and you still accidentally SMS-ing... then maybe they can nail you for other offence! Actually when you think of it, some drivers who try to program GPS destination while driving are also equally dangerous. Is there a law against fiddling with GPS device while vehicle in motion?? Steptronic Supercharged April 2, 2012 Share April 2, 2012 Maybe you can do anything you want but you must constantly observe the surrounding. Right. Change the rule a bit. Observe the sorrounding, if nothing unusual, do whatever you want

You should do neither, but just continue to drive until you find a place safe and legal to make a stop. Is it so urgent to pick up all calls immediately especially when driving? How long is a typical journey in Singapore? Cannot tahan ringing phones while driving? Tips: switch to silent mode when driving. Wallich street is a small road with parallel parking lots on both side of the road. I stopped behind the very first parking lot. This is not a main road where I was blocking traffic. If this place not safe for stopping then perhaps everyone should look for a lot in the top story of multi story carpark to answer a call, that's the safest place Maybe in your self righteous world, I should have not answered my phone , wait for a carpark lot in front of me to vacate, tear a coupon, switch off the engine to save the world, then answer the phone. Dammit I shall pray for forgiveness tonight. You think traffic police waive the summon for fun one? Edited April 2, 2012 by Aventador

Every month i am sure to receive one or two traffice offence notices on drivers (truck) caught chatting on walkie talkie and failure to keep left.
