What are the serve no purpose functions found in car?

Actually I find that the auto sensing wipers can be quite the useless feature. It's automatic...but not intelligent to the point I don't have to intervene a lot of times to either switch it on or off. It's "stupid" most of the time when it's raining. I will  end up bypassing the auto function and switch to "manual mode". For so many years car makers just leave it at that, nothing has been done to improve on it. So I find this feature quite useless.

Another feature I find useless is the paddle shifters or even tiptronic. For first time users they will use it often and find it fun, after that not any more. The problem with paddle shifter is that it isn't engaging as expected. The feel is more of a game controller rather dan a more engaging kick in the back. No mechanical feel, not engaging, nothing, numb. Most drivers just end up using it to go up/down carpark ramps just to prevent the auto gearbox from shifting up/down. Totally defeating the purpose of having paddle shifters.

There's one function that has actually gone obsolete....which is the map light. LoL...

Since drivers no longer use maps or street directories anymore the lights became redundant.

I just encounter one only yesterday which I commented that it is really stupid and useless. Can someone confirm this if it is the same in SG?

I drove my supervisor's Santa Fe to meet a client and I asked about the handbrake which is button operated. He told me push to release and pull to engage the handbrake. When he told me after you engage the gear to drive, it auto cancel the handbrake. He was so proud of the automation but I ask him what purpose does it serves.

I really wonder if this is the same in SG.

You need to accelerate for a certain time before it disengages, not immediately cancel when change gear. So the handbrake serves its purpose. It is to prevent people from forgetting to disengage the handbrake when driving off? Did that a few times on a manual handbrake before.

If u intend to park you won’t accelerate for a while so this cancelling after accelerate is actually a good idea. It’s present in a lot of German cars.

for me, it is the heated seats control panel, which took up valuable space in front of the storage box between driver and front passenger.  I got a anti slip mat and covered it so that I can use the space to put small items

Bro, it's not auto cancel.

When you engage D, and release the foot brake, the parking brake is still on.

Only when you step on the accelerator, then the electronic parking brake is released.

Agree its a smart move because many ppl forgot the e brake then press gas pedal hard and end up screwed the e brake system.

Eh I still keep a street directory in my car and when i go to work for night shift in need to sign in and sign so the map light is convenient for the sentry and me.

From my perspective, the reverse camera is useless.

I still depend on my mirrors [;)]

Read those old news about mothers reversing and running over their own kids (usually MPV or SUV) , you may change your mind.

Auto sensing wiper on Mini R56 is useful that i don't have to bypass it at all.

Paddle shifter is useful for me.  I manually shift to the highest gear prior to traffic light stop.  On NSHW, i use manual mode most of the time.

Map light is useful as it shine directly on either driver or front passenger.  It is even better now when i change halogen bulb to LEDs.

Should ban all rear fog lights - there are always those idiots (somehow only either aggressive drivers or blur aunties) turning then on during clear nights. Damn irritating to be behind them.

Some drivers don't even know it's switched on... they can't read their dashboard symbols...

Ur car what brand? So far bmw and toyota quite good no need manually switch the wiper mode. The auto mode reacts well

So far i nvr bypass it.

If u think its too slow or fast u can adjust the auto mode

Turbocharged

if my key is in the car.. the car cannot be locked. i think most cars should have this feature

i never even engage my handbrake since many years ago.. unless you park on a slope. i think handbrake is not necessary. nonetheless now all auto handbrake..

:o  :o  :o

Your auto tranny will fail prematurely as the weight of the car rests on it, when you engage 'P' without pulling the handbrake.
