4 months jail for a life.

Wonder if this is fast becoming a good avenue for people to kill off others they do not fancy.

Afterall, they get someone behind the wheels and kill off the guy/girl, maximum sentence is 2 years.

(I sent in letter to Minlaw asking them about how equitable is this, vs theft which can yield a higher sentence of 7 years, and get a typical reply...)

Singapore can become a nice playground for people to finish off others on the road...

hahahahaha...

accidents are still accidents?

unless the court can prove without doubt that the accident was on purpose, the person will be charged accordingly

erm... how should I put it.

It's a two way traffic (hope I describe correctly) which car from the main traffic turn in. No traffic light/zebra crossing. We all have to wait for the road to be clear to cross toward lo.

Still consider crossing the road illegally?

so u all no wait for road to be clear har?

Crossing the road illegally or legally?? as in red light/zebra crossing??

anyway, he show middle finger.. then sue him for sexual harresment.

Somehow I feel the driver is wrong to behave like that! [thumbsdown]

What's wrong with waiting for a little while and practice a bit of patience on the road....what happens if this lady is a old folk or a small kid? Was he rushing to hospital or toilet? Or just showing off to his lady passenger! The most he can do is to horn and then drive off. Coming out of the car and showing middle finger is too much! [thumbsdown]

We are drivers, we should be gracious to give way anytime on our public roads. IMHO. [:)]

SINGAPORE - A 23-year-old woman who drove without a licence was sentenced to four months' jail for causing the death of an elderly pedestrian.

Candy Siow Pei Shan, a waitress, was also banned from driving for 10 years, The Straits Times (ST) reported.

Siow, who was driving her boyfriend's car on Feb 12, 2011, lost control of the vehicle at the junction of Bukit Batok East Avenue 3 and Avenue 4, the court heard today.

She was driving along Avenue 3 and attempted to make a right turn without stopping at the intersection.

She panicked when she saw an oncoming vehicle and her car veered to the left, mounted the kerb and hit 70-year-old Tan Son Seng, who was on the pedestrian walkway, ST reported.

Mr Tan was crushed between the car and a traffic light pole, and pronounced dead on the scene.

Before the accident which took place in the morning, Siow had also drunk a substantial amount of alcohol between 12am and 5am.

She had consumed brandy with her boyfriend at Club Axchange in Tanjong Pagar, and later brandy and beer at a club in the Esplanade.

According to ST, Assistant Public Prosecutor Raja Mohan said as Siow had failed her driving test 13 times, she would have known that she was not competent to drive, yet she still chose to do so.

Siow, who started sobbing when she was sentenced to jail, was also driving without insurance coverage at that time.

WTF 4 months only????? WHAT A JOKE!

There's a way! Just take a photo of the guy, his car and send it to a social website (eg. Stomp) and shame him! [:)]

Siow had failed her driving test 13 times, she would have known that she was not competent to drive, yet she still chose to do so.

wtf failed for a reason still dare to drive on the streets. so she's only jailed 4 months for driving without license, but not for killing someone

Now I understand why people say our judicial system is a 'kangaroo court'. So next time people know what to do if they want to get rid of some1.

The news is not 100% accurate laa. That is NOT her bf, she didnt help start engine.. and confirm not the first time doing it. Just that the unfortunate ah pek got hit this time. Seriously feel sorry for the old man. Why didnt the family appeal on the judgement? Soon, there will be more youngsters driving around drunk, without license and killing more people!!

pressumingly not for the guilt of killing someone due to her reckless act, but the jail sentence.

Just show how much our society have gone downhill, everything is 'ME'. I hope this is not a widespread mentality in SInagpore.

I am very happy to say this "everything is ME" is not a widespread mentality, its only about 50%.

If there is blame to be apportioned then its "everything is YOU."

Okie sorry didnt realise my friend typed the site in, anyway I am also not sure about what is the standard procedure for giving the sentence. But just that was shocked to see that killing someone is only 4 months jail term.. I had seen harsher thats all I have to say. Sorry for any unhappiness caused.
