Vulcann 6th Gear March 28, 2012 Share March 28, 2012 I do not think the authorities will assist much in this sort of civil disputes or come out with such an insurance scheme. If pressed I guess they will say go for BMW to save ourselves these hassles... From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/...ory_782815.html Make Malaysian vehicles liable for accidents here Published on Mar 29, 2012 I WAS involved in an accident with a Malaysian vehicle on Jan 3. The Traffic Police have not charged either party. If the accident had involved two Singapore-registered vehicles, the apportioning of liability would have been 50:50. However, as this involved a Malaysian vehicle, I was advised by my insurer to make an own damage claim as it would be difficult to claim damages from the foreign vehicle or its insurer. This is grossly unfair. Singapore drivers pay road tax to drive on Singapore roads. We should be assured that in the event of an accident, our interests are protected. I have two suggestions: ↡ Advertisement
Maxus-MIFA9 Supersonic March 28, 2012 Share March 28, 2012 If we make them pay insurance to enter Singapore, they will just do the same for SG cars entering MY ..... LPPL ... Agree, it will definitely be a tit-for-tat response by them if we decide to go ahead with it. As mentioned in another thread, my way of avoiding getting into accidents with foreign-registered vehicles is to stay h*ll away from them on our roads if I can help it. Just slow down, speed up or filter out when you realize they are near you. I will also try not park near them if possible. This is after hearing many bros' experience in MCF of the difficulty or impossibility of claiming from them in traffic accidents.
WTF 4th Gear March 29, 2012 Share March 29, 2012 My friend's driver's door was banged into by a M'sia-registered car and when they go to the Police Post, there's nothing the police and do. Beemer75 Neutral Newbie March 29, 2012 Share March 29, 2012 anyone notice the fast food delivery industry has engaged many malaysian bikers using their personal bikes? any lawyer to comment if there is a case against the employer in the event of an accident (caused by their employees?) i reckon the insurance for the bikes (if any) was paid for by the employees. Cbr600fw Neutral Newbie March 29, 2012 Share March 29, 2012 My case was worst. I was stopped by the Aetos officer near to woodlands checkpoint towards JB & had my handbrake engaged. A few seconds later I heard a screeching sound & when I look at my rear mirror, I saw a black car approaching quite fast. I cant move as the officer is standing in front of me. Next thing I knew my car was banged from behind. I was furious & wanted to go to the driver but was stopped by the officer. Upon seeing the car is a M'sian Registered, I told the officer what can he do as I knew tt I cant make a claim with foreign vehicle even though they're 100% at fault. He just said tt he can only get the particulars & for me to make a police report. The officer didnt even book the driver for exceeding the 60kmh speed limit as I heard the driver was telling the officer he cant brake on time as he was driving above 100kmh. I have always been a careful, law obedient driver with no accident of my fault but Im really fed up with our govt policy. Its totally unfair as my Insurance coy also said the same & I have to make my own claim to cover the $8k repair costs to my badly damaged rear. It gives the wrong signal to foreign cars tt they can drive however they want & even if they caused an accident they dun need to pay anything. And the area that u stopped for the officer, they sure got CCTV everywhere. Can see the accident impact. fight it out with yr insurance company

Insurance co need to claim from somewhere. If they can't claim from the m'sian vehicle, even if you are not at fault, insurance co will still claim from the owner of the sg car. First, the insurance company will claim from MY vehicle Ins but inform you that it will be a long process. Might take few years.... Then the insurance company cuts your NCB until they recover the cost from the MY vehicle Ins Co and they will pay back the NCB. The next premium will be higher cos 'accident prone' and just imagine your amount increase in premium paid for 5 years or more (whilst waiting) could have been more than you pay for the repair from own pocket. Depend on the seriousness of the accident. If the cost is more than $3k, then claim insurance but if minor accident of repair cost around $1k ~ $2k, pay ownself better. But still make a report to insurance company and submit a claim against the MY vehicle insurance (not against own insurance company). This way, you don't lost your NCB and premium increase and after few years, you will get back your money. (if unless the MY Ins drag on & on until you forget about it). It happen to me when a MY lorry side swipe my vehicle along Balestier Road during heavy traffic. The driver just squeeze through in the middle lane and scratch my vehicle from the right rear to the front. The lorry also scratch a taxi on the right lane. Both of us stopped the lorry driver and took down his particulars & some photographs of the damages. I send my vehicle to workshop and the repair cost around $1800/-. Paid for the cost and submit the bill to insurance company to claim against the MY lorry Ins. I save my NCB and premium of which I still enjoy Comprehensive coverage until now even my ride is more then 7 yrs old. Totally forgot about the claim as the car concerned had been sold 3 years after accident. Suddenly receive a cheque of $2500/- (total claim) from my insurance company after 6 years.... Fyi, sg insurance do cover your car till West Malaysia up to the border of Thailand.. Anywhere out of West Malaysia, our local insurance do not cover already. Therefore, for those who drive to Thailand ie, they need to purchase an additional insurance coverage. ↡ Advertisement
