Kangadrool Supersonic May 2, 2013 Share May 2, 2013 Just place an order for new car today, the AD while filling forms straight put AIG for car insurance. The quote is around $2k (I get a quote of around 1.4K when checn aviva online). When I asked about Aviva, SE brushed off saying new car don't take Aviva. As this is my first car, can brothers here share your view? I drive to JB sometimes, what I concern most is car get stolen... Thanks! Are you comparing apple-apple? Aviva has options to choose, which if you tick all, the premium is as high as others or even higher. Whereas, normally for Chartis new car insurance, it is "comprehensive" comprehensive insurance. Meaning, got 1 to 1 replacement in first year, courtesy car, can go back to AD w/s, etc...

Ghostrider 3rd Gear May 2, 2013 Share May 2, 2013 Just to check, is it worthwhile to take up AD workshop coverage car insurance for $500 more? Was told that it is better to do so during the warranty period? Any one can advise? Rubbish...why need to pay extra $500 to go back to dealer WS ? Dun go back to agent they take over the warranty ? BTW...most agent workshop do not do 3rd party claims. You go back to agent for repair, you have to file a own damage claim. Then if you win the case, they will reimburse the NCD back to you and even if you win, you will still have the blemish on your record that you have file a OD. It will count against you when you renew your policy. IMHO, if the insurance insist on charging you extra for using AD when your car is new, look for other insurance coy for quotation. Pay attention to the terms offered. Some will charge you super high excess to give you a lower premium (usually a few hundred bucks OR less). Dun just look at the premium when you renew...pay attention to the terms & condition as well.
Suv8 1st Gear May 2, 2013 Share May 2, 2013 For new car, perfer insurance that cover AD workshop. However, normally on AD offers such insurance. I have a friend who change to NTUC after 1st year . Then, his car was hit by another car. NTUC say can only go to their authorized workshop. My friend was unhappy with the type of repair and services. He can not do anything. Although AD insurance is more expensive, when in need, you will not regret. However, I have another friend who have no accident. He always say why pay the extra, when he never need it. The choice is yours. Tsk tsk, such prejudice against aunty lucy ! If they are as bad as they are made out to be, how come they are no. 1 motor insurers for the past few years? I believe every insurer has different plans, cheaper, must use their workshop. Want use your own, pay more.
Vitaminc1231 2nd Gear May 8, 2013 Share May 8, 2013 Tried serached around but don't seem to see one that cover 100% (or at least market value) of car in the case of theft/lost. Most insurance cover only if due to damange. Can brothers here advise if your insurance covers car theft?
Ghostrider 3rd Gear May 8, 2013 Share May 8, 2013 (edited) Tried serached around but don't seem to see one that cover 100% (or at least market value) of car in the case of theft/lost. Most insurance cover only if due to damange. Can brothers here advise if your insurance covers car theft? Total lost due to accident/theft is usually market rate. ie...they will use the lowest (usually the case) of the same make model and same year/month in the market to pay out. Eg...your 2013 Jan car is bought at 100K....April car is stolen...pay out usually 100K...cos the premium derived from 110% of your value. For 1st year...most (not all) is 1 to 1 exchange. 2011 Aug...bought at 100K...2013 Apr lost...then they will look at places like SGcarmart...ST CATS to scout for a car similar to yours and offer the market value for your car. If its damaged...and the repair cost is above your paper value...they ask you to scrap. Beyond economy repair. (to me this is a scam...paper value also not from them...its LTA !!) Ecars Neutral Newbie May 31, 2013 Share May 31, 2013 No it is not at all necessary to buy it from your car dealers. Just tell them you have better options outside. Regards, I build Electric Cars ↡ Advertisement
