Kangadrool Supersonic April 12, 2012 Share April 12, 2012 (edited) Hatchback not practical, space wise is small. Strange leh. Europeans go for hatchback as it's more practical - can fold down rear seat and load bulky stuff. Sedan is hampered by bulkhead. So, which is more practical? Kiadaw 6th Gear April 12, 2012 Share April 12, 2012 Strange leh. Europeans go for hatchback as it's more practical - can fold down rear seat and load bulky stuff. Sedan is hampered by bulkhead. So, which is more practical? Do you mean Combi/wagon/sportback? In many European countries, they like to do road trips holidays, so Combi is good as you can carry a small family of baggage without big issue. Also, in many countries, you need to carry all the heavy bulky stuff yourself, e.g furnitures, chritmas tree, etc so Combi are just more practical. Hatchback are good for city driving & parking, & the roads in many Europeans cities are pretty narrow as some of the infrastructures are built hundreds or even more than thousand years ago, before cars are invited. I had sedans, hatchback before, & I now drives a Sportback, so I know more or less their pros & cons. Main advantages of sedan over Combi are usually looks (but some combis do looks better IMO than their sedan siblings, like the A4, & Skodo Octavia) & price are usually cheaper. So, which is more practical? Nowadays many sedan also can fold down the centre piece of the rear seat, making the space longer. Sedan cars can load things as well can ferry passengers, unlike hatchback either you ferry people or goods if you fold down the seats.
Civic6228 6th Gear April 13, 2012 Share April 13, 2012 There is no Lexus brand, all lexus cars is registered under toyota name. There is also no LEXUS in motherland - Japan previosuly ... Luxury EXport to the US .... I believe the export target for Toyota initial is mainly for the US market. I am not sure whether thay are selling LEXUS in Japan now ... there may have been some changes.

However, the sedan's bulkhead (fixed) prevents bulkier items to be loaded while for a hatchback, you simply remove the rear parcel tray/shelve. Most hatchbacks now are not much smaller or narrower than sedans. In fact, it's quite common to see conti hatchback with width of 1.8M. Length wise, hatchback is normally 1 feet shorter than their sedan counterpart. I owned a hatchback with only 250L space before and now a sedan with double the boot space of 500L. Yes, sedan has more space by specification, but in terms of loading practicality and ease, hatchback wins anytime.

Becuase of the shape, Hatchback are good in boxy object, like huge carton boxes, while Sedan are good for longer object like ski equipements & unassemble furnature pieces from Ikea in flat boxes (I am talking about with rear seats down, & rear cover remove (for hatch) etc. Combi have the best of both hatch & sedan in terms of boot space, & much more. Thats why I am driving one, & thats why they are extremely popular in Western Europe. But countries like Singapore, US, or China doesn't like them all that much. In US, they have trucks to carry the big stuff, in Singapore, people use delivery services. There are very rare occasions in Singapore (personal experience) that I can recall that I need to load many stuff into the back of my car.
