Can combine vw with audi too since they are under the same family.

F30 price is much higher than C180k. Even the 320i is selling at around $215k.

While C180k is around $170k before discount.

Unless there is a F30 318i using the 1.6L turbo engine from 118i.

 

First of all, the 328i/335i F30 that PML is launching now is different CAT of COE as compared to the C180K. There is no 320i at this moment, even there is, it is likely to be the tuned down engine of the 328i and the same engine as the 520i .... still CAT B COE. The price difference in CAT A and CAT B is already close to 20k.

 

I would think that PML will bring in the 318i using the same engine as the 118i but not in another 9 months or so. They have to bring in the 318i to be in CAT A and be in the game.... No many countries in the world import the C180K (1.6 kompressor engine). AD has the right strategy to bring in this model to be more competitive in the pricing game.

I think not only at LTA, those people in manufacturing industry and working shift work, heard many so called low level staff like technician, most of them the car they drive even bigger than manager! :D

 

[laugh] Same thing @ my workplace. The regional sales people (those maintaining relations to C-level people) mostly drives 200-300K luxury cars. Our regional CEO only drives a humble made in Thailand camry. Not becos he cannot afford, just that he does not believe in spending so much for a car in SG coz he is an FT.

 

My direct boss also drives a cheaper car than me [:p] not because he can't afford a nice car, but he prefers to spend his $ on his 3 properties.

Camry is the company provided car while those sales people's cars are their own purchase. Company car normally got budget and "specifications" to adhere to. :D

The company car is a lexus (LS460 if i'm not wrong) + driver which he assigned to his sickly wife. Camry is his personal car.

:D at least he's honest. Have seen a lot of these FTs given a company car, but didn't utilise for business purposes. Instead, let their spouse or children use, then KNNBCCB use company taxi fleet card to travel around for business purposes or tompang local colleague's car. [rifle] [rifle] [rifle]

I think it is a brilliant business strategy by C&C marketing, to bring in the Cat A 1.6 C180K, on a rising COE wave. Great foresight in propping up their Cat A sales.

 

It will be a while for PML to play catchup, with a new 1.6 318i model to arrive and to be priced competitively.

The 116i and 118i won't actually do, as they are hatchbacks ... and Singaporean buyers generally (majority) prefer sedans.

Didn't know the Camry's OMV has dropped so low! $20K+ only??

But the Thai baht is not really depressed right now, is it?

 

In spite of the Euro's decline, the C180K's OMV is still a strong $31K+.

At a net net price of $150K (post-negotiated) in Feb, no wonder C&C can sell (including other models) up to 500 Mercs a month!!

 

With the current $57K Cat A COE, C&C's assessed gross margin is only a mere $20K from selling each C180K!

I think it was just pure coincidence that a 1.6L unit by Mercedes was available and C&C had to bring it in no matter whether there is an increasing or decreasing COE trend. In both types of trends, it would be attractive for people to make purchases regardless.

 

Likewise for other distributors in Singapore which have manufacturers that produce smaller displacement units that coincidentally suit our COE system. I think Singapore is too small a market to have any influence on manufacturers and a greater reason for the increase in such cars is due to the downsizing and eco-friendly trend we see globally to counter the threat of hybrid vehicles.

For most other brands, the ADs here have less influence.

But C&C's case for the C180K is different and it's definitely no coincidence!

Now this came directly from someone "inside" C&C I know of ...

The 1.6 C180K, made by Mercedes Benz in Germany, was originally destined for the Indian sub-continent only. Some excess quantities had, in the past, been re-exported to Singapore and all immediately taken up.

Even then, MB AG had insisted to discontinue supporting the small Singapore sub-market after a while, but in view of the COE rise, C&C had appealed and successfully negotiated for a ratable supply of the C180K to be sustained for the Singapore market.

 

To-date, only Singapore and India gets the 1.6 C180K model ... no one else!

 

I believe some bros in MCF are also in the know on this fact.

Come to think of it, other than availing a relatively 'lower' cost MB for the Indian market, the German MB engineers may have been aware that turbocharged engines work less efficiently than supercharged engines, in the sweltering 45+C heat In many parts there!

PML are taking pre-order for 320i already. price as I mention is around $215k. You can check BMW forum for detail .

With the new 320i, PML will still not have a Cat A sedan to compete.

BMW and Merc had became car that the mass are owning....

I think it is more like the Singapore mass market has become a lot richer.

No where else in the world will you get to see the car-buying masses purchasing cars costing $150-200K! ... and cheaper cars falling out, with their dealers worried about what the future holds for them.

Some of the low-end brands have even RIP'ed recently.

True, MB and BMW are B&B cars now. Brands like Mitsubishi, Subaru etc are becoming luxury cars selling one or two a month [:p]
