if you are so good

why are you asking people who have lost alot of money

you reminded of the investors who drives rolls royce to wall street and stay in few arces mansion but seek advice from fund managers who takes the subway to work

Who knows, one mountain always has one mountain higher, we can always learn from one another

Indonesia/Philippine funds are the only funds that generated profits in the last 10 years, that's why I mentioned them specifically.

Again, investing is up to personal preference. I find that Legg Mason has lost their midas touch in picking the good stocks after their last showing.

For me, I'm pretty confident about Indonesia as I've direct family links there, and hence I know how well the economics is working there.

Well, like you I liquidated everything last September and missed the recent run up, too much cash earning less than one percent but not really confident about the general economy, so just itchy and decide to go in gradually regularly rather than totally not doing anything

Actually I'm still waiting to enter again. I didn't accumulate enough before the recent run-up, so now sitting on the sidelines.

In the last major correction, shanghai went to 2100 yet the unit trust was over valued, I too sit out and have not went in. Still waiting for blood on the street.

liongold and wheelock

shot through the roof last friday

i bought wheelock a week ago and off load today with a small tidy profit

this is my first time "gambling" this way

wilmar is another counter that may surprise everybody and shot past 5.6

i think the market is for short trading only now

for long term, temporary measure to preserve capital

but good bonds and high yield stocks

what is your opinion on this

I got out of the market and will monitor to see if it indeed goes down in big correction. Will still put money into equity for this year. The rest of my monies in properties. I rather collect rent than bonds for there should be a bonds melt down that will bring unit trust with them. For dividend play it's only worth it when dust settle or you accumulate dollar averaging over time. I not so into dividend as yet for 2012 until otherwise will give a call here.

You think it's a good fund? I think I will hold it for 10 years and invest 1K per month for the next ten years. is this a good idea? I believe countries like singapore malaysia indonesia and thailand will be the powerhouses of the world in 10 years time, what say you? can it grow to one million by the time I hit 50 years old?

y not buy 5 lots of Lee Metal every month and get 5% dividend annually besides capital appreciation

Never heard of this company, good or not? I am not stock expert, that's why leave it to the fund managers to do.

the thing about fund is they never promise u will profit but they make u promise to give them their manager's fees every year.

Lee Metal, very stable (if u like stable, dividend stock). not much to monitor, buy with cpf and keep under pillow type

search it up :

Thanks for the tip, I will have to study the stock more, yeah, the bad thing about funds is the high costs and the management fee of 1.5% pa, hence I only buy funds with lower expense ratios and online for less front end fees, and this fund has a expense ratio approved by CPF at least.

Markets generally up the past few years, doesn't take an idiot to make money. Invested in a variety of unit trusts in 08 and lost money initially but all profitable in 10 after markets recovered, sold them all off in september last year and park in mmf. Bought a property in 08, rented it out and sold it in 10 but sold too early and only made 40K. Bought another property in 10 and flip it 3 months later for a profit of 50K. Bought another property after that and did not want to sell, but force to sell it off after 1 year and this time never really make, maybe only around 20K. So total profits over the past 5 years maybe 125K? Not much la, 25K per year only, cannot even match 1 month's salary of most of the forummers here.

Haha thats right!

But the best thing about them is that they are all so modest and always

asking how to invest.

Warren Buffett and George Soros should be asking them!
