Watched the show, it was mentioned that in India, many families load up to 4 people onto a motor cycle. The creator wanted to make a car for such families. The idea was to create a motor cycle with a shelter and hence Nano was conceived.

 

Reminded me of my previous Daihatsu Hijet S100RV (van). It was basically 2 motorcycles tied in parallel with a cover spread across them. But I like the Hijet.
