Kar_lover Supercharged March 16, 2012 Share March 16, 2012 Me! Its definitely good. Compared to my previous tyre Dunlop Sportmaxx TT, the grip definitely better and stopping distance reduce quite a lot. Not sure if compared to CSC 5 or Michelin Pilot sport. but its cheaper than both those tyres.

Astrochucky Neutral Newbie March 16, 2012 Share March 16, 2012 My friend changed from BS RE050 to Michelin PS3 and his immediate impression was that PS3 has softer sidewall and was less surefooted. BS S001 is successor to RE050, and is supposedly superior, though i havent heard feedback from any actual users. Seems like PS3 characteristics/segment is more like the precedas, with pilot super sports occupying the segment vacated by PS2. Disclaimer - these are my impressions based on internet and friend hearsay, with no objective tests done.
Totallypatrick Neutral Newbie March 17, 2012 Share March 17, 2012 Just changed to BS S001 2 weeks ago 225/45/17. The tyres are not very quiet. Can't imagine after run-in. More tune towards handling because of the hard sidewalls. Stopping distance improved greatly too. Would recommend if you are more geared towards handling than comfort. Also pretty cheap among the BS range too.

Gasguzzler 1st Gear March 17, 2012 Share March 17, 2012 (edited) On S001 since July 2011. Previously RE001. Like you, I compared S001 with PS3. At the tyre shop, I had a go at using my hands to bend the sidewalls of S001 and PS3. S001 was so hard that I could hardly bend the sidewalls. PS3 was the direct opposite. Comparing S001 with my previous RE001: 1) S001 has much stiffer side walls and has been giving me better (sharper) turn in response. 2) S001 has better tyre wear - My RE001s reached indicator marks within a year. S001s are still wearing very well until today. 3) S001 has better wet traction performance due to the wider grooves. 4) S001 has better slightly better braking performance compared to RE001 - Did hard braking a few times while on both tyres. 4) RE001s are more comfortable due to softer sidewalls 5) S001 and RE001 are equally noisy when the road turns rough. They are very quiet on well paved roads (e.g. the new widened CTE stretch). But since you are looking at tyres of this type, I don't think noise matters much to you. 6) S001 has rim protectors. Not that it matters much unless you frequently hit curbs 7) S001 is made in Japan. Ok, RE001s were made in Japan too. I'm a sucker for made in Japan tyres. 8) S001 tyre design looks aggressive (personal opinion) Edited March 17, 2012 by Gasguzzler

Hopefully it is a good tyre. Edited March 19, 2012 by Dscheng
Jchuacl Clutched March 19, 2012 Share March 19, 2012 Compound for RE-11 is softer, so I'm not surprised that S001 is noisier. So do expect the performance for RE-11 to taper off more quickly as the wear rating for S001 is 280 as compared to 140 for RE-11. I should be going on S001 for my next tyre change (now AD08), and should be able to give a better FR. I couldn't put on S001 the other time as BS Singapore run out of stocks during that period when I wanted to change tyres. I wonder how RE-11 compare with S001.??Which 1 has better grip.? I'm curious what make u favor S001 over RE002 Now i'm on 2nd set of RE11 I'm consider either S001 or RE002 next Edited March 19, 2012 by Dfx16
Jchuacl Clutched March 19, 2012 Share March 19, 2012 S001 is supposed to be one category below RE-11, that's the reason for my choice. And why I want to downgrade is because I'm driving slower nowadays (centre lane vs Lane 1 previously) due to added responsibility as a dad. I'm curious what make u favor S001 over RE002 Now i'm on 2nd set of RE11 I'm consider either S001 or RE002 next

Huntsman Neutral Newbie March 27, 2012 Share March 27, 2012 I am on RE002. Grippy in the dry and wet. Gives a very precise steering feel and i feel that the ride is very stable. Yes it can get a bit noisy but its a small trade off for better handling. I didn't get the S001 because there is no size available for my rims. From what i know S001 is the flag ship model, RE-11 is the racing model and RE002 is the replacement for the RE001 which is a street-performance low profile tyre. Dscheng 3rd Gear March 27, 2012 Author Share March 27, 2012 S001 the sidewall is really damn hard. I can see the thread is quite thick too. Hopefully, it can last long.
Huntsman Neutral Newbie March 27, 2012 Share March 27, 2012 Yeah I like the hard side walls that Bridgestone has on their tyres. Firms up the ride and makes it less bouncy and squiggly in the corners ↡ Advertisement
