That's because FDW don't have their own place to stay in.

No one cares if those 2-3 hour cleaners date, right?

I'm not saying they can't date. I've not made up my mind about this. I'm just pointing out that comparing FDW against WP etc is not quite correct.

Any worker under work permit have the $5k security bond.

Even if you tell them "No" to r/s they will still do it behind your back. The rules are enough to control the situation cos before they need to renew their permit they have to go for medical check up, if not fit or got AIDS or something it will not be renewed, if pregnant gotto send home. Renewal is 1 or 2 years, so within this span of time they get into trouble, they will be sent home. I think it's sufficient for you to warn your maid about it to deter her from having any sorts of r/s.

One of the bros here hit it on the nail. By Singapore law, the employer is responsible if the FDW gets pregnant. The employer will have to pay for repatriating the FDW and also risks losing a security deposit. The law implies that the FDW is not responsible for her own behaviour, but the employer is.

the new regulation mentioned that the employer no need to be responsible for their pregnant (i.e. losing the deposit) but they need to pay for the air ticket to send them back.

i wont say they are the same.

Back home in indonesia, these women are likely to stare unemployment in the face. Unlike the skill FT or FW.

Considering thier background, spore is heaven.

My maid told us their normal office girls if they are lucky to get a office job, its like $120/mth. And this 120 is to cover everthing on food, housing, transport.

They come here earn 4 times the amount and everything paid for.........its not bad already.

2 years contract will pass very quickly just like our NS service.

Hasn't the law been recently amended to say that if a FDW gets preg, employers do not lose the $5k bond?

lol..loneliness sets in

if a local woman with 3 kids at home also dates outside, if that's allowable, then maids should be allowed too..no distinction

Yes, until recently this has been shaping the protective behaviour of many employers. Actually, other than for being responsible for pregnancy, the responsibility of taking on the costs for any violation or repatriation of the employee is not very different for high end EP holders. If the EP holders evade taxes, return to their home country and never return, IRAS could charge the employer for unpaid taxes.

There are always risks in hiring foreign employees, I don't know what is the best solution but I wonder if all FDW employers understand all of them. Mandatory insurance was introduced some time back, to help cover the medical costs so it reduce part of the risks for employers. Perhaps it could be looked into how the insurance coverage could be extended by utilizing the levy.

good suggestion, i guess the repatriation cost is more on humanity nature.

As for the medical to cover what? it is subjective, they can fool around yet, there may be some religion thingy that they cannot go on contraceptive for abortion which is suppose to be illegal in singapore [rolleyes]
