Pay them more does not equate to their quality of service. Its heng or suay.

for those who lobbying for extra days, have they thought about lobbying for quality service too. haiz

agree with you

maid now very smart

alot of problems lately judging from my friends experience

employ maid, maid not happy

1 month later she wanna go home

maid agency act blur especially after you pay full to maid agency

once maid go home they either come back here or go to hong kong or taiwan

with resume work in sg before but stated only the year of work not the duration

the only way

to force the maid agency to play ball is

find one that offer monthly installment rather than full payment upfront of agency fees

better to go for those with post-dated cheques. for monthly instalement, the maids still can run away and you still have to pay for the monthly instalements.

Also can we consolidate the off days into one long period.

For example march and jun school holidays where family go on holidays for one week, can the 7 days where the maid is left alone in Singapore be counted as 7 days off?

dangerous idea.... then the host family comes back from holidays, find all the beds at home messy and stained!!??..... and front door got one temporary sign "Hotel Rooms For Rent - Hourly Charge"!! :o

One day a week off....can be any day right?

Not necessary Sunday?

This is the loop hole.

Also can set all public holidays to be their off days right?

you want your boss to do that to you?

Most ppl here who are not aware of what maids are up to nowadays..

The maids have knowledge of the increased in salary if they were to change employer, break contract return home and made U-turn back to Sinkland after a short period here..

Check out yourself and you have alot of maids eithier as transfer or ex-Sinkland wanting to find employer in Sinkland at starting min $450 to $550...without really having had many years in here ..just one contract or less..

The agencies are in collusion with such practice as the loop holes are NOT plugged.

Mini-star Tan J C perfers to play wayang and make himself look good by enforcing the rules for better FDW employment but he has neglected that the maids play punk ( without any improvement of quality in them) and the agencies are playing along as it benefit them too..

Even maids who are given excellent employment working environment are playing punk...mostly for better pay ( without them having any new or better skills) many are already holding their employers 'hostage' becos if they go...the employer face many difficulties finding a suitable new maid.. not to mention the time a new maid needs to be re-trained to suit the employer own needs.

Mini Star Tan....you really disappoint me..

You should know that agencies are first blood suckers on both maid and employer and then they act blur when your MOM wants feedback from them and your MOM cannot wash hands whenever these ppl take advantage of loop holes to exploit employers.

It is high time employers do something about all these nonsense and get some justice and sanity back cos if not...the national agenda so the PM said was so important over by- elecetion at Hougang would suffer and there would be no remedy to it thereafter made possible.

you want better job you also change company right?

so whats the diff?

Its amazing some of the b-------t being spewed in here.

Yes I do agree that there were some bad hats out there but I always believe there is 2 sides to a story. I find that there are equal or more numbers of employers abusing the maid as otherwise.

Secondly, they are also humans, with human emotions. Imagine you are places in a "hostile" environment, where majority look down on you as a commodity. Along comes someone who shows care and concern for you, would you not grow attached to that person? Even if he/she is of another race? I can safely say that you would (please don't sprout self-righteous beliefs that you won't) as it is only human to feel alone and a need to attach/communicate with someone.

There should also be a certain amount of trust between both parties. I find that there is not enough communication between both parties on expectations as going by most the maid is just a commodity who is just there to work~

Lastly, its only 1 f--king day in a week! Even you expect more from your own employers! So why not allow them the same?! Is it really so much to ask?!

Its really sad to see the whole outcry, from this supposedly civilised nation, over 1 off day a week from your employee. Grow up!

ps. I have had a maid who stole from us but that was 1 incident and does not represent my whole experience.

Well said bro. I had a maid when I was quite young (not to take care of me, but my grandpa), I have never asked her to do anything, but she does help with my laundry.

We Singaporeans keep saying this & this people are racist & prejudices, but I think we are more guilty of these & ill treatment. In many 1st world countries, people treated maids, construction workers & related workers much better, but not look upon as 2nd, or 3rd rate & treated as such.

I think most of us here have no qualms about giving maids their entitlements but we expect the maids to reciprocate by not doing things that will hurt their employers. The angst often had when discussed about day off is usually the reprecussion of mischievous / irresponsibile acts they will bring to the family. The family is then left to bear the brunt of the consequences just like some cases quoted here.
