actually can la.

low income family can approach HDB for assistance. They get extra assistance from HDB. Of course the family can't really choose the location they want. They might get to choose from 2-3 locations.

Always remember that we have a garment policy that every family is promised a HDB flat, a roof over their heads.

Is the statement taken out of context? Something is amiss here..

If a family is earning only 1k, how much cash can they save to pay any downpayment? Havent even include other expenses like marketing, utilities etc

The calculation I did was based on HDB website. So is he right or the HDB website got calculation error.

Thanks.

So according to tharman says a family with $620 (1000 - 280 = 620) of household income can survive in Singapore.

its not that HDB website is wrong.

Low income family is considered as special cases. They are not treated as normal buyers. Extra assistance, concessions and grants are given to them. That's how they can buy a flat.

It's the same case as orphans who wants to buy flat. They are also special cases with extra assistance and grants.

The basic fundamental garment policy is every family unit is promised a HDB flat.

I though the median income was said to be $1990. And per house hold was $7,000++

I don't understand why there are family only earning $1,000.

The extra extra help to those low income is not well known to the general public.

Then do you mind showing the actual maths to us?

Think he should be talking about studio for old people and 2 room for younger people.

Based on the brochure from HDB, it is still possible to own a 2 room flat with a income of 1200 instead of 1000 provided you are eligible for all the grants.
