inlinesix Hypersonic March 1, 2012 Share March 1, 2012 if i remember correctly, the S280 is using air suspension. if that one goes kaput, his pocket also kaput. I don't think S280 got airmatic. S280 in Sg is juz b&b. ↡ Advertisement
ER-3682 Twincharged March 1, 2012 Share March 1, 2012 I don't think S280 got airmatic. S280 in Sg is juz b&b. All S-class,from W-220 to W-221 are using "Airmatic".
ER-3682 Twincharged March 1, 2012 Share March 1, 2012 Anyway Driving such big cars in S'pore no fun, these cars must employ a driver to do the driving....the boss should just sit behind.
Yattokame 4th Gear March 1, 2012 Author Share March 1, 2012 If ur unker is more 60 y/o, i would suggest something small but powderful. These 2 cars are too big for senior citizen. Not discrimination but pure biologically. He should look at something sportier, like SLK, Z4. These cars are easier to drive around. well... he's ard 50 and he's a very responsible and good driver. inlinesix Hypersonic March 1, 2012 Share March 1, 2012 well... he's ard 50 and he's a very responsible and good driver. It is not about responsible or not? These 2 cars are 5m long. As human ages, response will slow down. It is not easy to drive in our city especially parking. I used to drive BMW 520 which is 4.8m long. Whenever i need do reverse park into my HDB car park, definitely has to reverse into the box, go forward to adjust centre centre & finally parked. Go & hire 1 unit to try out for 1 wk. Antlau 1st Gear March 1, 2012 Share March 1, 2012 if it is just to pamper oneself, why not travel, and rent the "dream car" while having fun there? think it will be much cheaper and less worrying than "leasing" one in Singapore.
Theoldjaffa Hypersonic March 1, 2012 Share March 1, 2012 Hi all, story is, my uncle struck 4D (quite a big amt) and he would like to pamper himself for a couple of years before he retires. He wants to use 100k for a luxury car, and the 730Li and S280 are on his list. He is unwilling to fork out more for the new models. That is also the reason some of u seen my post about servicing mercedes. typical questions 1) which is less problematic? 2) which one costs less to maintain? 3) what to look out for in each car (eg airmatic for the S class)? 4) I am guessing S280L is a long wheelbase version of the S280 so it should have significantly more space at the back? I'm clueless when it comes to such cars. Thanx :) I dunno much about both cars but if I were to choose I'd take the Merc. But if single, no point driving such a big car. SLK or Z4 will be nice. Friendstar Supercharged March 2, 2012 Share March 2, 2012 Put it this way. Assume he won 400k sgd. To spend 100k on a 6 year old s class or 7 series is just suicidal. The repair cost and all can easily cost 50k in the next few years. I would rather he choose a 4 year old e class.
MrolexB 1st Gear March 2, 2012 Share March 2, 2012 Let's just stick to TS requirement lah ... assumming budget $100k for a pre-own lux car. Assume his uncle is sane and made a judgement call ... He wanna enjoy life with a lux car, and not go holidays or KTV to "song" ... So far 730, S280, LS460 mentioned ... Audi he don't like ... if his "enjoyment" is to sit big car with lux interior, the mentioned models look good ... if he wanna be a speed demon for once, how abt a re-COE porsche ? $100k enough for that bo? Roh96 6th Gear March 2, 2012 Share March 2, 2012 In my opinion, take the S280. S-class gives a stronger taokay image than 7 series. Besides, the previous model of 7 series outlook is ugly lah. The current 7 series look too close to their 5 series in terms of outlook. S-class outlook is more unique, from far can tell is S-class.

Haha...same for me. I can briefly identify a 7 series from 5 series thru the slightly bigger front grille, and a slightly longer rear passenger door if it is a LWB model. Other than that, both 7 and 5 series really look identical from far. The same apply to previous model of Volvo S60 and S80. Always mixed up both S60 and S80, both look identical to me.
