Fennmax Clutched February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 Had a free car sponge...used it recently, seems to scratch the surface and strip wax/polish.Not very versatile, cannot reach inside door handle. Fact or fiction? ↡ Advertisement
13177 Hypersonic February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 This is why when you send your car to those car wash, usually they use sponge to wash your car and often will leave fine stratches on your car.
Nzy Twincharged February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 I don't think it is the sponge that scratches the car. Usually should be the dirt particles or sand that gets trapped in the sponge that scratches the car.
Picanto 3rd Gear February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 use a MF cloth
Grix17 Clutched February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 Stopped using sponge some years ago for that reason. Been using MF cloth and never looked back. Less likely to pick up sand and other fine particles.

Less likely to pick up sand and other fine particles. MF cloth also not very good. Still can drag along those bigger particles on the paint. Better to use something like a wash mitt where the particles will get buried deep in the mitt rather than being dragged along the surface.
Kerwen 6th Gear February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 if dont wash, then no scratch
Hermit 1st Gear February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 (edited) yep, used sponge and left fine lines on clear coat many yrs back. Using army towel now and it is awesome I must say Edited February 29, 2012 by Hermit

I use mine like a wash mitt. I use different MF cloths for soaping/cleaning, drying and washing wheels.
Steptronic Supercharged March 1, 2012 Share March 1, 2012 Try to wash the sponge quite frequently in-between the usage. There would not be any problem!
Salmon 1st Gear March 1, 2012 Share March 1, 2012 Also tissue paper is also a big NO NO as it will also leaves fine scratches.

Kangadrool Supersonic March 1, 2012 Share March 1, 2012 Also tissue paper is also a big NO NO as it will also leaves fine scratches. Tissue is the worst. I tried using tissue cum water to clear off bird shits. End up with lotsa of scratches, not fine scratches, but quite coarse. Dun play play.
Nooby Clutched March 1, 2012 Share March 1, 2012 If not going to wash car yet then for bird s--t use what? Wet tissues?
Kangadrool Supersonic March 1, 2012 Share March 1, 2012 I spray wet the bird shits, then use old sponge to clear off instead of tissue. Only slight swirl. Tissue CMI.
13177 Hypersonic March 1, 2012 Share March 1, 2012 If not going to wash car yet then for bird s--t use what? Wet tissues? Think can soak the tissue wet and then left it on the bird s--t surface, wait until the s--t got soften and can use the soak wet tissue to slowly wipe off. Nzy Twincharged March 1, 2012 Share March 1, 2012 If not going to wash car yet then for bird s--t use what? Wet tissues? Put a wet tissue on it then let it soak awhile. Remove the tissue and spray some water to rinse off all the s--t. Then spray QD and wipe dry.
Nooby Clutched March 2, 2012 Share March 2, 2012 Thanks for the advice. Btw if after clearing the little branches and leaves on your wind screen (maybe left abit of dust?) and you use your wiper, will it scratch your wind screen. ↡ Advertisement
