Chelsea is so desperate now that they even consider Rafa who messed up Liverpool and Inter Milan?

By ESPNsoccernet staff

Rafael Benitez's agent insists there has been no official approach from Chelsea and said the position would only be considered "once there is an offer".

Reports in both the London Evening Standard and The Times have suggested Chelsea have lined up Benitez as a potential successor to Andre Villas-Boas.

The Spaniard is currently available, having been out of work since his brief spell at Inter Milan in 2010, and his impressive record in Europe may appeal to Blues owner Roman Abramovich.

However, Manuel Garcia Quilon - while ruling nothing out - says the Blues are yet to make any kind of approach at this stage.

"There is nothing official," he said. "It's only media speculation and we have not been approached by Chelsea. We would only evaluate that possibility once there is an offer."

He added: "Benitez's priority is to coach in the Premier League."

Villas-Boas has maintained that he retains the full support of Abramovich despite the club's disappointing performance in the league and this week's Champions League defeat to Napoli.

Chelsea's managers since Mourinho:

2004 - 2007: Jose "Special One" Mourinho

Won 2 titles and 4 cups but left "on mutual consents" (rumours on disagreement with Roman Abramovich)

2007 - 2008: Avram Grant

tio pok after one season

2008 - 2009: Luiz Scolari

World Cup winner but tio pok after only half a season

2009: Guus Hiddink

Highly rated, win FA Cup, popular among players but only interested in managing Chelsea for half a season

2009 - 2011: Carlo Ancelotti

tio pok after 2 seasons, winning a title and 2 cups... also signed Torres for British record of 50m

2011 - present: Andres Villa Boas

Young and highly rated, dubbed as the next Mourinho, but seems to lose support of senior players and Roman Abramovich... Has the worst managerial record for Chelsea in the past 7 seasons

Mourinho got the best deal as Chelsea then was in its prime!

Drogba, A Cole, J Cole, Terry, Lampard, Cech, etc.....

Factor in Carvalho, Essien they were all in their mid twenties! Now, nearly all cross 30 already.

Whoever comes in will have to do a massive rebuilding!

Hey dude....I dun mind this idea. Then Kenny can just be the technical director. But most of all...I will never want Roberto Di Matteo to be the 2nd man. Think he is crap. Would prefer Zola or get back the old man...Phil Thompson. LOL [:p]

With the current dismay performance of Chelsea couple with the dressing room unrest, with the likes of Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole reportedly in open revolt, 4th spot looks to be out of the reach of Chelsea this season.

Arsenal is also not performing, the team is too dependent on RVP, and if RVP get injured, or out of form, Arsenal will be in big trouble - RIP for Arsenal this season?

I bet Liverpool to finish the season on 4th position and qualify for UCL
