Do math and spell hippoPotammous just chill and let them have a normal childhood... if they are gifted, no need to test they will also stand out among the kids.. new parents are all like that... look at facebook.... "wow look at <insert name> he can do <insert activity> at 14 months" "my baby is so smart he can do <insert activity> at 18 months without help from me" so on and so forth..... but so what? normal happy childhood wins everything.... you dun want him to grow up to be a freak and socially awkward ↡ Advertisement

Tuna_seng Clutched February 24, 2012 Share February 24, 2012 He may be gifted in IQ. But please do not neglect the EQ also. Seen some high IQ friends of mine (GEP) but grew up kind of weird and without many friends. Socially awkward as well. Dunno how they feel. Must be tough. Your 2 year old is indeed a fast learner. But there are different types of giftedness so it is quite interesting to see how they develop. Don't place your hopes too much on our GEP programme. It is not really designed for gifted children, but a syllabus with more interesting stuff to occupy the minds of kids with higher IQ. just share a little about my kid... attends neighbourhood primary 1..not gifted type... almost 3 mths now. two weeks ago, parents were asked to attend a course about higher chinese.. talk about teaching hanyu pinyin, parents are supposed to be involved in the teaching at home. also, weaker kids have to attend remedial lessons on wednesdays and saturdays for their english & maths. they are also having spelling and 听写every week, and have to give a simple synopsis of a book they read every week wth.. just 2 mths into primary 1 and got to do all these? can't imagine what's going to happen inside those gifted classes.. especially if the kid is not a 'real' gifted, but thru hardwork and i'm not sure what's the criteria for 'gifted'.. a gifted kid may not be only academic. he can be very good with music, sports, or even art. how? i hope the program is not some factory to churn out robots.. Same for the parents of this kid, he's only less than 2, nurture him well but do not destroy his childhood in the pursuit of genius. In your case, Absolut.
