Cybertech 4th Gear February 23, 2012 Share February 23, 2012 Time to change tyres, this time round thinking of changing to either higher or lower profile on stock ralliart rims with 195/60/15 tyres currently. Am I correct to say these: 1) Change to 195/65/15 and the gap between tyres and wheel arc will be lesser BUT car become taller. 2) Change to 195/55/15 and the gap between tyres and wheel arc will become larger BUT car will be lower. Yet to decide 1) or 2) but for 2) when side view I can imagine it might look like the car on a set of small wheel. To have a comfort ride, 1) or 2) will be a better choice? ↡ Advertisement
Nf0rc3r 1st Gear February 23, 2012 Share February 23, 2012 This is what I use http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html The thicker the tyre sidewall the more comfortable it will be..

No mention car model, car weight, whats wrong with current tire size. I believe we know too little to share more helpful/useful ideas, if any. With (1) or (2), please do take into consideration of the deviation or variation in the accuracy of your speedometer. A tire calculator may help you in this case. Car was Lancer CS3, since changing tyres just want to try out another sizes whether to slightly lower the ride with 55 profile or reduce the gap between tyre and wheel arc using 65 profile. I believe this model to be a little slippery, so not advisable to try learn through mistake(s). Stick to stock tire or slightly narrower ones. Avoid changing the tire profile. Eddielawson 1st Gear February 24, 2012 Share February 24, 2012 If you choose 65 profile, you might encounter tire rubbing fender when turning.
Deckbuild 6th Gear February 25, 2012 Share February 25, 2012 For your case, changing from 60 to 65 don't cause much difference, speedo might read slower that's all. Definitely car will be slightly taller. Lower the profile will give you a harsher ride.

Btwl Clutched April 1, 2012 Share April 1, 2012 Hi Guys. I would be very grateful if someone can help me with this query. If the rim size is 18" and the original tyre specification is 245/40 R18 but I found the ride a little harsh and noisy, which would be better? (1) change the tyres to 245/45 R18 (2) change the tyres to 235/50 R18? or (3) downsize to 17" and use 235/55 R17 instead? (Assuming using the same tyre brand) Thank you.
