13177 Hypersonic March 21, 2016 Share March 21, 2016 More than 30 min delay. My wife board the train at Pasir Ris before 8am, and reaches Paya Lebar at 9am+. And the best part was NO announcement at MRT station at all! This is nothing new anymore. ↡ Advertisement
Carbon82 Moderator March 21, 2016 Share March 21, 2016 Why are you surprised ? I am not surprised, just highlighting that take news report with a pinch of salt. Not the first time she encountered MRT breakdown. The other time lagi better, stuck in MRT station for almost 1 hour (due to crowd control measures that restrict people movement in and out of MRT station) with NO train services, and the next day, news reported a minor delay of 10 min... I am not complaining, but waiting patiently for all these nonsense to be resolved. I know it is fat hope...
Carbon82 Moderator March 21, 2016 Share March 21, 2016 Once I thought MRT was a faster route to the airport at around 5-6pm when ECP/PIE would be peak, the train was delayed between Expo and Changi for about 15-20 mins. Slightly panicking as it was close to flight departure time. No announcements either - the train was moving albeit very slowly, jerking and stopping intermittently. If all minor delays were to be reported, guess SMRT / SBS has to hire one battalion of staff just to send announcement (via PA / SMS / Apps / Twitter, etc.) and response to massive public scolding, and needless to say someone position will be at risk. But, announcement should be made so as to allow traveller to plan their trip better. They always said start your journey early, but just how early is sufficient. Can't be that I start work at 9am, start taking train at 6am right?

Our train is no longer reliable and fast. And it could breakdown any sec and mins. So you need to prepare for extra timing and mindset that your journey will be longer or you will get stuck in the train/station somewhere for long period of time. Lol. Ake109 6th Gear March 21, 2016 Share March 21, 2016 (edited) 15-20 mins delay is significant considering our size. Without traffic, one travels on PIE from East to West within 35 mins. What LTA or MOT still doesn't seem to get it right, is it isn't just a question of not having any delays but at least communicate it timely and effectively so people can re-plan their schedule as much as possible. If I knew the published time will be delayed by 15-20 mins, I will surely just take a taxi or leave early. By delaying such communication, people assume the train is on time and more people get stuck in the delay. Or perhaps they are more concern about their KPI for having no delays. What? And admit all the breakdowns and 'disruptions' honestly? Last time complain infrastructure old liao, now is new lines breaking down left and right. smlj!
