Turbocharged

I drove a W114 in similar condition with the same wheel caps when I was 23.

Everything were heavy and solid except the recirculating ball powered steering. FC was terrible, soft suspension, huge and springy seats, people thought I am ahmad everywhere I went.

Returned it to my father when I got my own car a year later, missed that car.

Yes my family used to have a 1988 Charade 1.0CX...

Back then only the hot 100hp GTi model had 3cyln multi port injection and DOHC, intercooled turbo. But still no power steering.

The rest of the engine options were old sch carb.

1.3L FI only appear in the subsequent (more boring looking) generation.

Anyway the Charade styling both inside and out were ahead of its time back in 1987, esp so when u compare with bigger cars eg Corolla and Civic of the same era. But the engine, esp the main staple 1L, was a big POS that was left over from the 1979 version.

And the car vibrated and buzz like crazy even when new. Fuel economy is laughable by today standards esp considering it made just 50hp. Reliabilty was downright poor, similar to new Protons today.

And it was expensive. I rem my dad paying some $38k for it. Where the same money can buy u a then new Hyundai Excel 1.5. Top up another 5k or so and u can get the Hyundai Stellar liao. Although both were junks by their own rights also but they are bigger cars

$38K is on the high side. I paid $30,000 for a brand new Honda Civic 1.3M back in 1984 (SBA plate), when Kah Motors was located at Boon Siew Building. Got back PARF $11,200 in 1994.

$1,880 annual depreciation. [:)]   Today's Honda Civic is $1,880 for 2 months' depreciation

That's the good 'O Singapore of yesteryear for you.  ^_^

Daihatsu Tanto or Suzuki Solio? Either way, they are rare enough on our shore...

Wah you really  [thumbsup]

To be honest, I didn't quite take note of the car model, but yes, it should be solio.

I was just attracted to the paintwork. quickly snapped a shot of it when stopping next to it at traffic light.
