Back then Honda was a true innovator, unlike today....

The model Civic was actually derived from the short form CVCC.... Continunous Variable Cam Control... Yes Honda already had VTEC heads back then. It was a pure mechanical VTEC control that switch cam phasing based on RPM only. No valve lift yet. Can't incorp engine load variable without ECU.

It was a time where other Japs manufacturers eg Nissan and Toyota still struggled with outdated hand me downs engines options from Austin and other manufactrurers. Eg.... The Nissan 120Y, 140J, 160B trio at that time... those engines sounded like it will explode if you rev it over 3000rpm.

Honda also developed wishbone suspensions at that time for the Accord.

The mid to late 70s were the darkest period in automotive history.... ever tightening emission standards, introduction of unleaded gas... low octane gas etc... Big power american muscle cars engine were reduced to sissy ouput. but Honda managed to overcome all these and made a name for themselves since then

This Civic can still be found on the roads in Malaysia. I saw before.

On Honda innovation. Way back in 1966, Honda had already built a V12 engine to race in F1 against the likes of Ferrari and Ford in the world stage. Honda won only 1 race in 4 years of racing. It was the first Asian car manufacturer to take on the best of Europe and USA on the tracks.

My dad mentioned it was one of the perkiers car during its time, easily leave the traffic behind. My uncle in his Lancer use to "race" with him but couldn't keep up.

But alas the car was plaque with recurring oil leaks and was recalled by dealer a few time. My dad sold it after 3 years.

I still have the brochure for this 1st gen Civic. Haven't seen this in quite awhile, is there anymore left in SG?

Your photo taken some time back? It look even better now... I just saw it about 2 weeks ago, the same car, as I remember the registration number.
