This GTR is a joy to drive! Pure mechanical, very light and balanced chassis, and can keep up with most modern cars on B roads. The feel of driving such cars is indescribable, and keen drivers have to try it ay least once to experience it.

There are 2 variants of this grandpa GTR in Japan, and both aren't cheap in the Japanese classic car market. The most prized Japanese classic is probably 2000GT, followed by Cosmo, and GTR (the race specs variant) due to rarity internationally.

This diplomat must really hate the astronomical cost of car ownership here

Diplomatic missions are entitled to bring in cars free from PARF, COE, etc. But there's a quota as to how many cars the diplomatic mission can import. Not sure how the formula works though.

Today saw some kind of small blue Opel OPC!

Too small to be Astra...

Hello, you talking to the son of an ex owner leh. LOL

Confirm plus chop carb. 16v sohc carb.

Cos we played the choke so many times in the morning.

Yes my family used to have a 1988 Charade 1.0CX...

Back then only the hot 100hp GTi model had 3cyln multi port injection and DOHC, intercooled turbo. But still no power steering.

The rest of the engine options were old sch carb.

1.3L FI only appear in the subsequent (more boring looking) generation.

Anyway the Charade styling both inside and out were ahead of its time back in 1987, esp so when u compare with bigger cars eg Corolla and Civic of the same era. But the engine, esp the main staple 1L, was a big POS that was left over from the 1979 version.

And the car vibrated and buzz like crazy even when new. Fuel economy is laughable by today standards esp considering it made just 50hp. Reliabilty was downright poor, similar to new Protons today.

And it was expensive. I rem my dad paying some $38k for it. Where the same money can buy u a then new Hyundai Excel 1.5. Top up another 5k or so and u can get the Hyundai Stellar liao. Although both were junks by their own rights also but they are bigger cars

Is one thing to look back with rose tinted glasses or to enjoy driving old cars, (lucky you to have driven a 1st gen GTR) but to say it can keep up with most modern cars on B roads, you be trippin. Don't even need a sports car, all you'll need is a F30 BMW 328i. Gone case. In fact, i think even a 320i will outrun it. Handling wise also cannot compare, modern day suspension systems and chassis stiffness will once again prevail. You can't beat 40 years of progress. Unless you're in a video game. Heck, even a competently driven F30 328i will wipe the floor with the M3s from just over a decade ago. And new cars are much easier to drive fast, on straights and in the bends. (Similarly, the just launched 5 series, a non-M 540i, is now quicker than the previous M5)

1st gen GTR values are higher than Cosmo currently.  + the one on sale is not GTR. A real GTR with the values they command now, will be around 1/2 mil SGD landed. (As a classic scheme car)

Saw on the ad and I think this is not the KPGC10. The original had an 2.0 str 6 with 5 spd manual. The ad put 2.7 as the engine cap with auto transmission (bleh). I'm not sure how this car is put together but is def quite a let down.
